Filson Tin Packer Hat

Great hat that lasts a lifetime (lifetime meaning until material fails). I have had my hat for about a decade and I have loved it. That is a long time but I have only used it for about ten days every year for my annual fishing trip. I would say that I have used it for about a hundred days in total. The sweatband failed many years ago and the leather trim band was loose after the first week I had it. But who needs sweat and trim bands? I need something that keeps both the sun and rain out of my eyes… Full review

Outdoor Research Ghost Rain Hat

Best all around outdoor hat that I've found yet for our moist, often unpredictable, Pacific Northwest USA weather! Three-season especially rain (but not summer) use, with adjustment options, giving unparalleled flexibility. Classic outback form styling. Had Indiana Jones lived out here, the Ghost might well have been his hat! Almost perfect already and my guess is that later generations may soon be. It was talk my wife into me getting this or wear her purple n' black Seattle Sombrero.  Her S'brero… Full review

Filson Tin Cloth Bush Hat

This is an ideal solution for protection from the wind, rain, snow and sun in cold weather. The hat includes a wool flip down that covers the back of your head and your ears. It has kept me warm in temperatures down to 15°F. Here's a pic of my old Packer Hat (L) and the Filson Tin Cloth Bush Hat (R). Filson Tin Packer Hat

A trusty friend that I have put out to pasture. Filson's Tin Cloth Packer Hat is an unusual product in that it has the exceptional construction and quality that Filson is so well known for; yet the materials that give it such a great quality is also what ultimately fails. This is a difficult review to write. I love Filson products, and I do love this hat. However, I won't buy the Tin Cloth Packer hat anymore as I think there are better solutions. If you want something that's for cold weather, waterproof,… Full review

Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero

If you want a hat with Goretex rain protection, a full brim, and light insulation then this may be one of the finest hats you could choose. I do have a problem with this hat, and I want to give it less stars. However, I think it's important to review the hat based on what it was designed for, and not in how it failed to meet my needs. I think this hat shines if you want: Goretex rain protection for multi-hour downpours. I've used it in this way and it worked flawlessly. A full brim to keep the rain… Full review

Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero

I bought this hat almost 20 years ago and it still does its job. I lived in the Seattle area when I bought this hat and it seemed appropriate because South King County where I lived was in a moderate drizzle ten months a year.  The Gore-Tex material has never in the years I have owned it leaked a drop. This hat was my first introduction to the OR brand and it gave me a very favorable impression of the company. This hat has been with me through forests and mountains, in mud and under water. I grew… Full review

Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero

Perfect hat for sitting in the rain. This is the perfect hat for spending a significant amount of time in the rain. I love that it is waterproof and will keep your head dry. I have used this hat extensively in Alaska and fishing the northern Minnesota and it has never let me down. It is very packable and will roll-up and fit in a pocket while not is use. It is also lightweight so you feel like you're not even wearing it. It might be a little warm for the middle of the summer, but it does great the… Full review

Outdoor Research Prismatic Cap

A bomber noggin topper for a wide range of temperature conditions... with one major quibble. Size: Large  Color: Fossil & Black (I own 2 of them) Weight: 3.8 oz Warranty: OR's Infinite Guarantee (lifetime) A few months back I was looking at noggin toppers for colder weather activities. I have a slew of beanies, fleece caps, toboggans, etc. but headwear is an item I just cannot seem to own enough of... I wanted something different. But I still wanted to keep the dome toasty and dry in the colder… Full review

Filson Tin Packer Hat

I purchased this hat at a local outdoor supply store because it looked like a hat that would last. I've owned the hat for about a year now and am very satisfied with the quality craftsmanship. I've worn the hat in rain, snow, and a whole lot of sun. The durability of the hat and its solid stitching makes it easy to take off and pack away, fold it, bend it, smash it, and put it back on. Not one stitch is unraveling, and I get a lot of positive feedback on the style as well. I can count on this hat… Full review
