REI Triad Parka
Price Paid: $250
This parka is the best I have ever owned. I owned the original Traid Parka circa 1988 and it was good, but the original Elements waterproofing did not hold up well. The latest build of this parka has an improved coating that has the fix for the original issue.
This parka is waterproof, easy to tote and warm. Highly recommended for anyone needing a good heavy parka.
Fabric: Gore-Tex/Supplex Ripstop Nylon
Fill: Zip-Out Removable 550 Goose Down
Price Paid: $295 USD
This parka is one of the BEST I have ever owned. I've been thru rain that literally poured on me in Washington state, and weathered -30F in the Midwest and Eastern US with this parka.
Its zip-out down liner allows for the use of the parka by itself or with another zip-in liner with a similar zipper configuration (i.e. Eddie Bauer's EBTEK PolarTec jacket) for more moderate winter weather.
It's packability with the down liner is sometimes difficult, but without the liners, it packs very flat. Even still, I'd recommend this to anyone without hesitation.
Where to Buy
Here's what other sites are saying:
The adaptable REI Triad parka offers 3 protection options: You can wear the shell with the liner, wear only the shell or wear only the liner. REI Elements(R)-rated nylon shell is breathable, waterproof and windproof to 60+ mph; lining fabrics wick moisture, add warmth and perfect the fit. Zip-off hood features a brim to shield your eyes and front and back volume adjustments to preserve vision; collar is lined with brushed tricot. Stormflap protects zipper and keeps wind from moving through. Drawcord hem and adjustable cuffs seal in warmth. Shell has 2 zip exterior hand pockets, 2 flap pockets with snap closures and 2 zip chest pockets; inner zip chest pocket has a cord port. Insulated liner jacket features collar and cuffs with stretch binding, a 1-hand-adjustable drawcord hem, zippered hand and chest pockets and an interior pocket with cord port. Polyfill synthetic insulation stays warm even when damp; Triad liner's back length is 30 in. Liner is wind resistant up to 45 mph. With the liner jacket zipped into the shell you get maximum protection and warmth; or wear either piece separately as weather conditions dictate. REI Triad parka has a classic fit.
