Exotac NanoStriker XL

rated 0.5 of 5 stars It is a great fire starter if you do not put it on a chain or neck loop. Mine came unscrewed while hiking and that was that. You'll only find out it was lost when you need it at the end of the day. Full review

Light My Fire Tinder-on-a-Rope

rated 2 of 5 stars Other options. I work in survival training. TOAR is another fine idea but it still requires prep work and is bulky and you have to pay for it. I've used BBQ firelighters for years. I cut a few to an appropriate small size and wrap them in gladwrap and alfoil to carry in my EDC and other kits. The best ones are compressed fibre blocks that are impregnated with a flammable liquid or petroleum wax. They are waterproof, ready to use, can be cut to any size you like, don't crumble or degrade and can… Full review

TheTentLab Deuce of Spades

rated 5 of 5 stars If you need to drop a deuce, pop a squat, pinch a loaf, or grunt a stinky in the woods, then TentLab's Deuce of Spades is just what you need. However, as an all-purpose multi-tool, there are limitations. Undoubtedly, the Deuce of Spades is an outstanding trowel. However SOME of Trailspace seem to feel this is the only piece of equipment you need in you pack. (I'm not naming names, but can you really trust reviews written by people using such obviously fake identities like "Mike" or "Elizabeth?")… Full review

ClickHeat Hand/Pocket Warmer

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Too good to be true. Don't fall for the SCAM! They work, but not as they promise. Came across the ClickHeat booth, at the Tampa fair. I will admit, the "reps" are well trained to not answer your question truthfully, but also not really lie. My husband drives a truck and was reassured this would be awesome to take on the toad and use for backaches. Not once was it mentioned you have to boil them to reuse. (How do you do that in a truck???) we asked, "we can just reuse them, over and over again?"… Full review

Space All-Weather Blanket

rated 5 of 5 stars This tough space blanket can be used as a tarp or a groundsheet, but I like it best as a blanket reflecting my body heat back at me. Unlike cheap cellophane space blankets, this one is tough enough to use and reuse many times. Essential gear! This reinforced space blanket is tough enough to use as a tarp or a groundsheet, but what I like best to do is put it on the floor of my tent with my sleeping bag on it. If I get cold, I flip half the blanket over my bag. It reflects my heat back at me. A little… Full review

Ultimate Survival Technologies BlastMatch

rated 4 of 5 stars Excellent for campfires, but for stoves... All right, I admit it. I bought one of these after seeing it on "Naked and Afraid." Please note, in the woods, I am only occasionally naked and never afraid. However, this item looked like it could be handy even for someone clothed and composed. Being seduced, I did buy. If nothing else I figured I could argue about it with cronies. Come to think, I guess I am doing that now. It is basically a standard, thick magnesium composite bar with a steel striker… Full review

Light My Fire Tinder-on-a-Rope

rated 4 of 5 stars Tinder-on-a-Rope is a very reliable fire starter that is easy to use and functions well even after it has been exposed to moisture. It you tend to carry fire starter beyond just a pack of waterproof matches, then this would be a solid choice to carry as tinder to help start a fire. First off I want to say that I received my Tinder-on-a-Rope from Trailspace as a gift for being a past reviewer of the month. When I first received my Tinder-on-a-Rope, I kinda thought to myself well "whoopee" I just… Full review

Coghlan's Backpackers Trowel

rated 5 of 5 stars Most of the titanium cat hole shovels weigh from .6 to 1.0 ounces, price around 30$, and they are short (about 6 inches), and not ergonomic . The Coghlan's is longer, more of a bulb planting garden trowel. It has a good handle for leverage and weighs 2 ounces . When lightening up gear, I figure about 10$ per ounce to upgrade is a fair price from old to new. The Backpackers Trowel vs the titanium is a 25 to 27$ per ounce cost. Not a good price to pay to lose one measly ounce. You decide. Strong plastic,… Full review

TheTentLab Deuce of Spades

rated 5 of 5 stars Great lightweight spade, and super dependable! Wanted to add to previous review, that I've used the TentLab spade for several months, and have dug down in shale, hard gravel, and packed dirt in Yosemite and Santa Barbara San Rafael Wilderness area, and have had no issues with it! Great tool, and super lightweight as mentioned. Love also the fact, as pointed out, it fits nicely next to water bottle! If you don't pack a bottle, my only suggestion is to be careful packing it the wrong way in your pack… Full review
