ClickHeat Hand/Pocket Warmer

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Waste of money. Don't get sucked in. I bought the shoulder size at a trade show. It was solid when I took it out of the box so right away I had to boil it. It leaked! So now I don't know if it's safe to use that pan or not. $100 pan, it's probably trash. Full review

Wild Ideas Bearikade Blazer

rated 4 of 5 stars The NEW Blazer Bearikade from Wild Ideas in Santa Ynez holds up to nine days of food, is 750 cubic inches, and weighs 33 oz. (2#'s, 2.8 oz). Compare that to the BearVault BV500 at 700 cubic inches and seven days of food at 2#'s, 9 oz. Hope the pictures give you some idea of the differences. I purchased the BLAZER because I was attracted to the extra volume and ability to hold up to nine days of food without resupply. I debated the real value of saving about 5 to 6 ounces over my stickered BearVault… Full review

Soto Pocket Torch XT

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Awesome telescope feature on a jet type lighter. They do burn down gases in between the trigger and burner. It is a fact of life. I have enjoyed the distance between my fingers and the other fuel's ignition immensely! Like my propane BBQ. Had two and used them up over a year each!. I have enjoyed the distance between my fingers and the other fuel's ignition immensely! Like my propane BBQ or the rustic pine shavings to start my fire pit. "in my front yard" "Tennessee style!" About to step out of… Full review

Primus PowerLighter

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Well-made outdoor lighter optimized for lighting the stoves and campfires. Supports refilling from standard gas canisters via optional quite expensive adapter. Very convenient for outdoor use. During more than 10 years in backpacking and camping I tried numerous ways for lighting the stoves and campfires. None of them were perfect though: the matches are expendable and prone to getting wet, consumer lighters are exhausted quickly and may drain gas into your gear. I’d used the fire stone for couple… Full review

BSN Medical Leukotape P

rated 5 of 5 stars Leukotape P has replaced moleskin as my material of choice for preventing blisters. I have always had tender feet and been susceptible to blisters, so I take preventive measures and will tape my feet before a long hike. A few years ago I noticed people on hiking forums making positive comments about Leukotape P, so I gave it a try and it has now become my material of choice to prevent blisters and is something I always carry in my pack. One of the best things about the tape for me is that it is… Full review

Thermacell Backpacker Mosquito Repeller

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a great evolution to their older handhelds, which were bulky and require their proprietary fuel cartridges. I hate DEET. I feel this is a far better solution. I've used the handhelds for years from BBQ's to week-long backpacking trips. These just plain work and you don't have to cover yourself in DEET! These are smaller, lighter, and don't require Thermacell fuel! I've already tested this new unit and it works flawlessly.  Full review

Sawyer Permethrin Premium Insect Repellent

rated 5 of 5 stars I have used DEET and other products since the early 1980s, but Permethrin treated clothes are much more effective in tick prevention based on my experience in tick-infested areas. Sawyer Permethrin can keep ticks from landing and biting, and can actually kill them on your clothes. It is the repellent I depend on for work and recreation—effective and easy to apply. A recent forum thread reminded me I hadn’t reviewed bug protection products that I planned to write up last year.  With today being… Full review
