Biffy Bag

rated 1 of 5 stars Not backpacker-friendly—too heavy after using; materials are too cumbersome for a "squat" position; smells for sure and not pleasant. It is not backpacker-friendly. It became extremely weighty after the gel was activated. It also just plain stunk. And who poops standing up straight? To squat to use created all this excess material and does not allow your waste to fall into the package. This in turn created too much handling of my waste and what to do with all that waist-tying plastic material… Full review

Biffy Bag

rated 1 of 5 stars Understand the concept of PI/PO and the need to diminish human waste impact on popular recreation areas. Who poops in that position? Can't use item in the kimchi squat. Why all that non-environmentally friendly plastic? Unpleasant odor. One of the joys of backpacking is realizing a diminishing weight to your pack as the trip goes on; this adds probably two pounds a day in weight due the the gel and waste together. We ended up just going on the ground and then shoveling it into the pack. Eliminate… Full review

ClickHeat Hand/Pocket Warmer

rated 1 of 5 stars Wished that I'd seen the reviews before purchasing the back pad with the "free" foot pads for $106 at the Suffolk Peanut Fest. Pros: Fast-heating Cons: Fast-talking seller did not have any literature to back up his claim of a 10-year warranty guaranteeing three hours of heat and two hours of cold relief using warm water to "reset" the product (stated warranty would come with my receipt via email). Wished that I'd seen the reviews before purchasing the back pad with the "free" foot pads for $106… Full review

Biffy Bag

rated 5 of 5 stars Great product for backcountry camping. Small lightweight, helps keep the environment clean. Having been a backpacker for several years now I have had a few occasions to have to answer the call of nature while out in the backcountry. Let me tell you that is an experience. I've been in weather so cold you can't dig a proper cathole, or in areas too close to water.    So, after taking a Leave No Trace training course and hearing about this product I went right out and purchased a three pack. It's… Full review

Sea to Summit Mosquito Head Net

rated 5 of 5 stars Large enough to fit over a hat. Small and light enough to carry anywhere. Keeps mosquitoes at bay. I have been carrying the Sea to Summit Mosquito Head Net in my backpack for years. I got it as a gift and being so small and light I just stashed it in a ditty bag along with my headlamp and a few other items which I would use occasionally on backpack trips. Up until this summer's PCT section hike from Tahoe to Yosemite I had never needed to use it even in Alaska and the Yukon. While reducing my… Full review

Vargo Dig Dig Tool

rated 4 of 5 stars This is a very strong, durable, and functional backpacking potty shovel and spare tent stake with the added benefit of potentially being useful for a number of other applications on a backcountry trip or around camp. When I first received the Dig Dig Tool my general impression was that the design was very utilitarian/functional. After taking the Dig Dig Tool out on several trips I have found that it does a great job doing what it is intended to do, which is to dig catholes. Design and Construction… Full review

Counter Assault Bear Keg

rated 4 of 5 stars This is a standard bear canister with recessed twist lock fasteners. The large size makes it suitable for long trips or groups. I purchased the Counter Assault Bear Keg two years ago for weekend backpacking trips in New York and New Jersey. Group size ranges from three people up to seven people. This product uses a standard design and works well. The recessed latches are easy to open with the appropriate tool; a knife blade, a coin or multitool. The reflective stripe around the middle of the canister… Full review

Ultimate Survival Technologies Base Tube Tarp 1.0

rated 5 of 5 stars A light and simple emergency shelter. I got this as part of the 10 Essentials prize pack as a 2016 Trailspace Reviewer of the Month. I haven't used it on some emergency situation since I luckily haven't had one. But I have set it up just to get familiar with it. The color is right to get easily spoted when waiting for resque and the weight is, as expected, very low. I think it was at around 700gr. Perfect for carrying as a safety net on an imminent bad weather. All it takes is two trees to make… Full review

ClickHeat Hand/Pocket Warmer

rated 1 of 5 stars Just bought at the LA County Fair. Too much work needed between uses. Impractical for most people. Price ripoff. BEWARE FAIR GOERS!!! At the LA Fair there are several booths selling them. Girl was very nice and demonstrated the ease of use. Initially $99.95 for one; buy two they were $49.99. Only wanted one so she sold it to me for $49. Should have been the first clue. We had to go back to the booth to get our receipt, which is when she said you need to boil it after use to get the body oils off… Full review
