Exotac NanoStriker XL

rated 5 of 5 stars Throws a nice spark, kinda like a glob if you get it right. Takes up no room. Best $20 I've spent in awhile. This pic below shows it. The first pic is a mini Maglite. As you can see it's a good size broken down. I would bet my life on this guy and getting my fire going. They give you several different color options and a smaller version. It really is a quality built piece of gear. Definitely worth the money. Full review

Jason Aloe Vera 98% Moisturizing Gel

rated 5 of 5 stars Failure to apply enough waterproof sunscreen to my face on the snowy alpine slopes on Mt Rainier, caused my entire face skin surface to burn off! A horrible highly uncomfortable recovery process and my face appearance was saved by this little tube of Aloe Vera gel. I bow down in homage to the cactus spirits that save me! -- Review in Progress -- please check back shortly! -- On a hike on Mt Rainier, Wash., to Camp Muir at 10,000', it looked like my one HEAVY application of "WATERPROOF" 60+ sunscreen… Full review

Whiz Freedom Feminine Funnel

rated 5 of 5 stars Oh my gosh. Before the Whiz Freedom, that awkward squat when everyone can tell exactly what you're doing—PEEING! You don't want anyone to see you peeing! Now with the Whiz, I can pee like a man! Sure if someone saw a dude standing with his back to the road it would be assumed he was peeing. But a woman just appears to be standing behind a car! I have been camping with this three times, but I do recommend practicing in the shower about ten times before you try it outside.  First time I used it… Full review

Coghlan's Waterproof Matches

rated 1.5 of 5 stars Since we do a lot of canoe camping, and camp in all weather, having waterproof matches seemed like a good idea. These matches will light when (lightly) wet, but I certainly will not purchase them again. These are a perfect example of "you get what you pay for." Inexpensive matches = poor quality. Yes, you get a lot of matches in this package...but we have found that so many break while you are trying to light them, that probably only half are actually usable. The stick portion is very flimsy and… Full review

REI Mini Multitowel

rated 5 of 5 stars The mini towel is perfect for backpacking. After a heavy rain it's great to wipe water off your tent. The towel holds a lot of water and rings out almost dry. It comes in a small lightweight pouch with a caribiner to attach to your pack. Can be use to clean or dry your body or cook gear. I won't go hiking without it. Just love it! I used this towel on a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail. I used it as a sweatband and a towel for bathing. It was a lifesaver when it came to absorbing and wiping water… Full review

BodyGlide Anti-Chafe

rated 5 of 5 stars How would you like to float down the trail, with little or no pain? BodyGlide product can help with the second part of that. It can be a real problem solver for the skin discomfort, the bane of many outdoor adventurers, blisters and chafing! Provided that the gear has the right physical design, non-aggressive surface texturing, and size for you, test this as your potential solution. Basically it makes your skin surface less wettable, thus less swellable. And it adds some tenacious slick, slipperiness… Full review

Zippo 12 Hour Hand Warmer

rated 2.5 of 5 stars It does what it advertises, but I would add a couple of caveats. These hand warmers actually "burn" the propane, not with a flame, but they cause the naptha to combine with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst. The burning of an organic fuel produces carbon dioxide and water. If you keep this device inside your clothing the water vapor will eventually diminish the insulating properties of your outerwear. Kept in a jacket's outer pocket, as a hand warmer rather than a body warmer, it should be fine. Also,… Full review

Zippo 12 Hour Hand Warmer

rated 4 of 5 stars Refillable catalyst handwarmer. These are easy to use and work pretty well. The large Zippo handwarmer works really well. In the '70s my grandfather gave me two Jon-e handwarmers for backpacking. Those were great. Yhey probably still work, but I cannot find them. I have two of the Zippo handwarmers and have used them both. My wife uses one and I use the other. It is fairly easy to fill. The newer models have a hole in the fuel absorption material that allows for faster easier filling, but these… Full review

Ultralight Backpacking Titanium Cathole Trowel

rated 5 of 5 stars Leave No Trace is a backpacker's greatest responsibility. Digging a cathole has become easy thanks to ultralight titanium trowels. They do not break like the orange plastic ones. They are super light, do not take up any space in a pack, carrabiner to the outside. Not too expensive. Everybody that backpacks and poops in the wilderness should have one. I got tried of the cheap, stupid, orange plastic cathole trowels that break all the time. I would end up using a stick, and it takes forever to dig… Full review
