UCO Sweetfire Strikeable Fire Starter

rated 4 of 5 stars An interesting eco-friendly product that is excellent for lazy lighting of campfires and wood stoves in good conditions. It is extremely easy to use and burns longer than most fire starters, but does not perform as well as alternative fire starters in adverse weather. It would not be my go-to fire starter if I anticipated adverse conditions such as wind and rain, but will likely be in my pack for those weekend trips where the weather is more predictable and I want to get a fire going with the minimum… Full review

Vargo Ultimate Fire Starter

rated 4 of 5 stars The Vargo Ultimate Fire Starter is a good idea and handy gadget that functions as a spark lighter with ferrocerium (ferro) rod and bellows. I would recommend it to folks who like wood stoves and building fires, but there are better options if all you need is a spark lighter to light a stove, as the dual function and convenience result in a couple of areas that could improve. Vargo subtitles this device with “Just add fuel”, and that is fitting.  The Ultimate Fire Starter (hereafter called UFS… Full review

Wild Ideas Bearikade Weekender

rated 5 of 5 stars Good customer service. I rented directly from Bearikade. The price per day is reasonable. They mail/ship it to you and don't charge for shipping time. The review above was very complete. I have nothing to add but what is above. Full review

Wild Ideas Bearikade Weekender

rated 5 of 5 stars Would you believe that I found mine at a THRIFT SHOP, for only $10? I love it! The people in my backpacking group are envious! Full review

Wild Ideas Bearikade Weekender

rated 5 of 5 stars The Bearikade line of bear canisters from Wild Ideas are by far the lightest weight for the volume you get. Bearikades are the only carbon fiber bear canisters approved for use where canisters are required. The Weekender can hold enough food for two people for 3+ days, or up to 7 days for solo use. This is a review of the Bearikade Weekender bear canister by Wild Ideas. The Bearikade, available in three standard sizes plus custom sizes, is the only product they make and/or sell. You can find them… Full review

Chamois Butt’r Chamois Butt'r Original

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a great skin lubricant for use just about anywhere on your body. It seems the older I get the more things I have to deal with to continue to enjoy the hiking and backpacking that I do. One item that I don't recall ever having to deal with when I was younger is chaffing in various areas that after a day or two of longer hikes, would be uncomfortable enough that I would need several days to recover before hiking again. To address the issue I went out and started looking for something to help… Full review

SlingFin CrossBow 2 Mesh Drop-In

rated 3.5 of 5 stars This accessory is designed for the CrossBow 2 StormPak, allowing the user to be well protected from insects, while minimizing weight with the bare-bones setup of the CrossBow 2. For those who want a strong tent that is easy to customize, the SlingFin CrossBow 2 is a lightweight way to do it! When using the StormPak configuration, the tent user has the option to modify this open-air setup by adding the Mesh Inner Drop-In. This accessory is a hybrid between a tent inner, and an open-bottomed centrally… Full review

TheTentLab Deuce of Spades

rated 5 of 5 stars This is the best trowel to have on any backpacking trip! Small, lightweight, sturdy! It gets the job done! There are not many out there to choose from, but this is for sure the best one! I used to have a hard plastic one, but this one is way better! I brought this on my thru hike on the JMT in August. I love it! It was lightweight and small enough to fit in any side pocket of my pack. I like how strong it is. Anyone who has been hiking through the Sierras knows that there aren't toilets in too many… Full review

PROcure Epsom Salt Rub

rated 3 of 5 stars An easy to use spot treatment for sore muscles. Mixed with aloe, it is non-greasy and odorless. When I received a sample of the PROcure Epsom Salt Rub, my first thought was this is another product making dubious claims without any science behind it. While I had certainly taken Epsom salt laden baths in the past for aches and sore muscles it just seemed a stretch for it to work as a topical product.  After using the rub for several months for a variety of muscle pains I became a believer. While… Full review
