Salomon Adventure 9 Mountain

rated 5.0 of 5 stars

The Adventure 9 Mountain has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best backpacking boots for 2024.

The Adventure 9 Mountain boot is by far the best trekking boot I have owned. The "plastic" ankle cuff offers tons of support on rough terrain (saved my weak ankles many, many times) and the sole ranks among the best for traction.

One of the boots best assets may also be its biggest flaw, however. The built in zipper gaiter covering the laces is wonderful for keeping grime out of your laces. It is a big help when everyone else has to lace up muddy boots, and your laces are always clean. However, and this is how it may be a drawback, the zipper can get clogged with grit and if you tug hard enough it may tear. This happened to me, but I sent them back to Salomon and they replaced the zipper at no charge. Also, the zippers tend to leak if you are in water too long. I wear a pair of gaiters and this helps dramatically.

If you need a light (comparatively speaking) trekking boot for both winter and summer travel I highly recommend this boot. Ecspecially if you have weak ankle like I do.

As a note, this boot is crampon compatible, but not with step-ins. You must use strap-ons. The sole is too flexible, and the heel retainer digs into your ankle. Incredible boot that you are sure to get comments on the trail with.

Cheers,

EM
