Salomon Authentic 6

rated 3.5 of 5 stars

The Authentic 6 has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best backpacking boots for 2024.

I climbed all the NH 4000 footers in one pair of Authentic 6 during a period of 14 months. These boots are great out of the box! Too bad they don't make the blue/gray model anymore...

I used Nikwax regularly and they stayed quite waterproof. One of the boots unfortunately died when I attempted a long section of the Long Trail in late october 1997 in 15 inches of new snow. It "melted" by our campfire at Shootin Star shelter!

These were boots I got from Sierra Trading Post on clearance. They looked good but were too narrow for my wide foot. SO, if you have wider feet, they may not be for you.

Seriously comfortable and quite adequate support for NE backpacking. However after only two months the lace hooks are ripping out of the leather.
