Scarpa Phantom 8000

photo: Scarpa Phantom 8000 mountaineering boot

I use the Phantom 8000 last December 2009 for an expedition on the Ojos del Salado.

I had very bad experience with the zip: Due to a lot of sand and dust the zip sometime stack and it was not possible to close the outer shell. The morning of the summit day it was very cold and the zip of the right boot stack!! It was not possible to close the boot: big anger!! I save the summit climb using a few meters of tape …

My experience: the zip is unreliable if you use the Pantom 8000 in very hard conditions. Also to delicate if you consider the very high price.

The insulation was ok (temperature -20°C with strong wind).
