What a great boot! It was comfortable but a little stiff out of the box. I have trouble getting a good fit with some boots as I have a narrow heal but wide toes. Break-in took a while but about what one would expect from a boot designed for rough trails. I added Superfeet insoles as the footbed was a little hard - even with Thorlo Treckers and liners. This made a HUGE improvement and I would recommend them for use with any boot.
The Scarpas are great for the roughest trails I ever hike and are fine for bushwacking too. They stay 100% waterproof (after Nikwaxing) even after hiking all day on rain soaked, very muddy trails - you can step in mud/water up to your ankles. The soles are plenty grippy. The ankle support is not up to some boots I've tried but they don't choke your ankles either - as long as you don't have weak ankles I think that's preferable.
I dread the day these wear out and hope they still make them then.
