Design: Mummy
Fill: Thinsulate Lite Loft
Temperature Rating: 20°F
Weight: 3lbs.4oz.
Price Paid: $145
I purchased this bag approx. 2 years ago. I have been very dissappointed with it. Its temperature rating is very optimistic in my opinion. I've slept cold at 35°F to 40°F ranges. Also this bag has lost most of its loft. I paid approx. $140.00 for this bag based on glowing recommendations from both "Backpacker" and "Outside" magazines. I feel that both of these magazines have mislead their readers when it comes to Lite Loft products, in order to maintain good relations with the manufacturer (3M in this case) this 20°F Lite Loft bag is at best only a summer bag. A very expensive one at that.
Just to advise.... I'm not a cold sleeper, I generally use a RidgeRest sleeping pad, and I normally sleep in either a tent (Sierra Designs, Look Out) or a Bivy Bag (Bibler). And I'm an experienced backpacker, all seasons. I've spoke to or corresponded with other Lite Loft sleeping bag owners, and most have expressed the same opinions. I don't feel that this is the fault of Sierra Designs, just a problem with Lite Loft itself. It is light, and it does stuff smaller than other bags, but it definately does not live up to its temperature rating claims. I hope this helps anyone in the market for a sleeping bag.
