User Review: Sierra Designs Zeta 4
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $250-$350 it was few years ago
Very roomy, great tent for a backpacking family. Poles are like origami.
- Good price point
- Easy to set up with two people
- Not easy to set up alone
- No guy out points on sides
- Wish it was square
We got this tent to backpack Yellowstone with the family (2 adults, 2 children, and a dog) three years ago. Have used it over 70 nights so far in California, Wyoming, and New England. Spring to fall. No issues at all, never a bit of wetness inside the tent. Even in New England downpours. Tent vents well in hot weather so we wouldn't take it into the winter.
Tent is easy to pitch with two people. Harder, but not impossible, alone. We really like how the footprint/fly attach to the tent and the color coding its super easy to figure out how to set everything up.
We pitch our tent very tight. There are no guy out points on the long sides which can make it harder to pull sides away from interior, Sierra Designs does sell extra clips for this, but we wish it came with it.
The narrower end can cause problems with four full length mattresses in place the two mattresses on the outer edges get pushed towards the center. It does work, but not as smoothly as it could be. We usually use shorter mattresses with our children and put them on the outside.
It's a bit heavy for backpacking, I wouldn't want to carry it hundreds of miles, but for the occasional backpack trip when shared between two adults it's not too bad.
For us this tent has everything we need at a cost we could afford.
