Great simple hiking compass. Run some para-cord to a buttonhole, and drop her in your shirt pocket, even if you go without your pack, it is always with you. I always like to be aware of my basic heading, and take readings periodically when off the hiking trail.

I do have a backup in the rucksack, but I run the Starter as my main. After 11+ years in the military with the S&Y lensatic compass, you would think that is what I would run now, but the 1-2-3 does the job just fine without the bulk/weight, and carrying is a breeze so you won't go without.
