Therm-a-Rest Men's NeoAir XLite

rated 4 of 5 stars Ultralight and highly compact, this pad is exceptionally warm for its weight. It doesn't merit five stars because I don't feel personally confident about its longterm durability, and it's crackly enough that very light sleepers will need earplugs at night. At $159, I consider it worth the money. The 2016 model has new material and is rectangular, so check that out as well. This pad rocks for ultralighters and isn't half bad for the creature-comforts crowd. How do I know? I'm a picky, cold-sleeping,… Full review

Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Insulated Mat

rated 4 of 5 stars I have the Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Insulated Mat. I have used it on two AT section hikes. Overall I like it, but... I have the insulated mat regular size in rectangle. Of the two sections I hikes I did with this mat the first was in the early spring we hiked from NOC to Fontana Dam. It got really rather cold at night and the pad did very well. I was still cold and did not have a great night sleep, but it would have sooo much worse without that pad. It inflates quickly and the double-sided eggshell… Full review

Kelty Weekender Pad

rated 5 of 5 stars This pad rocks. I have two of them. For the price you can't beat it, I have taken it backpacking four nights on Isle Royale, multiple weeks spent in Colorado backcountry, West Virginia, and so on. This sleeping pad provides enough insulation to keep you warm on colder nights. The only problem I have had is a leak occurring from the fabric right where the nozzle is (these leaks occurred on fourth use and somewhere around the 20th use). This happened to both of my pads, but was easily fixed with a… Full review

Big Agnes Q-Core SLX

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Typically I'd be drawn to a lighter weight foam pad where there is no worry of puncture. But, the ability to pack small, sleep on my side, and the awesome warranty from Big Agnes all make this pad worth it. This pad is awesome. I recently broke it in with a summit trip to Mount Baker. The valve system works great, although it does take more breaths than I would prefer at high altitude. It seems durable. We were sleeping on rocks and I didn't feel that I had to worry about the pad, and I was never… Full review

Naturehike Egg Crate Style Anti-Moisture Pad

rated 5 of 5 stars This is the NatureHike brand CCF sleeping pad that is comparable to the Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sol, complete with the aluminum coating on one side. At only $16.83, including shipping, it's a great deal. I held the NatureHike side-by-side with the Therm-a-Rest, and it's the same in all the dimensions, except mine is blue instead of the yellow Therm-a-Rest. I needed a CCF pad, and didn't want to pay $40 for the Therm-a-Rest. I found this one online, and took a chance. It was $16.83 including the shipping. Full review

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite Max SV

rated 3 of 5 stars It's comfortable, but you're going to have to learn how to work the finicky speed valve or you'll be re-inflating in the middle of the night. I'll avoid the debate about inflatables vs. closed cell foam pads, and just say that this pad would be great if you don't mind the extra weight, increased setup time, and singular purpose. Otherwise, I prefer a CCF because it sets up faster, and I can throw it down on any irregular surface in seconds. I found this new on eBay at a price I couldn't resist. Full review

NEMO Astro Insulated

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Overall this pad has been pretty good. I like that it folds up small and is lightweight, and it's pretty easy to pack away, but it is not self-inflating and sometimes leaks air. Overall, I am happy with this pad because it is easy to tote around on backpacking trips and it worked well up on Mt. Adams in the snow. Make sure your air valve is completely locked and not to knock it all moving around or it will open and spill your air. I've found that you have to either completely get out of the tent… Full review

Big Agnes Q-Core

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This is hands down the most comfortable sleeping pad I have ever bought! With that said...it is not the one I currently use due to its weight. Big Agnes Pump sack: This is the part that hooks on to valve on pad, as you can see it not ideal but does work. In freezing temperatures good luck fidgeting around with this. One of the reasons it's just a stuff sack for me now and I bought a flat valve pad.  This is what it looks like with air in it.On this trip I used the Q Core with a cheap ($20) 45°F… Full review

NEMO Tensor Insulated 25

rated 5 of 5 stars Very lightweight, roomy, with great insulation properties. This Nemo Tensor is a super lightweight sleeping pad, and very comfortable. I, like most of us, have been through a few different pads. I'm 5'7", 115 pounds, and need a well insulated pad as I'm a cold sleeper and also have very little body fat, so a simple foam sheet doesn't work for me.  This is well constructed and fills fairly easily. I've used it twice: the last was a four-day, three-night backpacking trip to San Rafael Wilderness… Full review
