User Review: SOG Seal Pup
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $60ish
When I think of this knife, my knife I think of the following: reliable, quality construction, consistent performance, superior value. This is the single kinfe i've recommended most and i equally recommend it to you. Best uses for me have been camping and hiking, meal preparation and fishing, and miscellaneous uses.
- Special Aus-8
- Could be a tiny wee bit bigger
- Doesnt have tang to stick out on bottom
In my lifetime i've owned may knives from folders to fixed. I can honestly say, without a shadow of a doubt, this has got to be the best knife i've ever had and i'll tell you why.
HANDLE/GRIP- this thing won't slide out of your hand even if you have fluids all over it and you can't beat the functionality of glass reinforced nylon.
AESTHETICS- this things looks racy without being aggressive and superior styling makes it look elegant even dignified.
BANG FOR THE BUCK- i got mine for 60 on ebay.
PERFORMANCE- the thick and hearty Aus 8 steel that's cryogenically treated really gives it an oomph, normal Aus 8 steels don't compare to this in terms of performance: prying, chopping, slicing, cutting.
RELIABILTY- after two years it's still going strong. hasn't chipped once, hasn't corroded (thank you TiNi coating)
HOLDs EDGE FOREVER- becasuse it's a stainless steel you don't need to sharpen it as much as a carbon steel and you especially dont need to sharpen it as much because of the cryo treatment. this knife does not have the best steel in the business like ZDP-189 or what have you but for the function it's meant to do and for the price and value it doesnt get much better than this.
Sure you can spend upwards of 150, 200, or even 300 for premium knives with rare steels and unique design but proportionally speaking you won't get a better knife than this one, trust me, i've done my homework. do yourself a favor and stop researching and buy this lil gem of a knife. oh and PS get the one with notches on the back, it's a lifesaver ;)
PPS did i mention its full tang?
