SOL Origin

This is a great Grab n` Go survival kit for backpacking or hiking trips. The SOL Origin is just the right amount of equipment if you find yourself in bad way. The compass, knife, and fire strike are a "must have" in any survival scenario. The whistle and flash signal mirror may just be the difference between being rescued or not. The LED light,  cordage and fishing kit are great extras, along with the 62 point survival instructions, and the ability to add items like water tablets and and a water… Full review

Friendly Swede Paracord Bracelet

Officially called "The Friendly Swede Adjustable Premium Paracord Bracelet with Fire Starter and Sharp Eye Knife," this paracord bracelet includes a useful emergency fire steel and a cutting implement that doubles as a fire steel striker in addition to about 17 ft/5.18 m of paracord. Quality components make this a good survival-style bracelet for anyone who doesn't mind the bulk of this hefty bracelet—campers, hunters, or anyone who wishes to be prepared for the unexpected. What It Is Paracord… Full review

SOL Origin

I got this as a freebie despite having to pay import duties. OK, this must rate as the worst survival kit out there. The knife is terrible. The light is useless. The light on mine would not work when it worked. It would not switch off. The on/off switch has now broken (just what you need in a survival situation!). The plastic box is way too small. I much prefer a simple 2oz tobacco tin. The knife blade works itself loose after a little while. If I had paid the full price for this I would have been… Full review

SOL Origin

A "survival kit" with "62+" components that come integrated into a hard case. Excellent as a stocking stuffer or maybe a gag gift. It may perform sort of okay as a reserve in a glove box or the like. The components of this kit are plentiful. I was impressed to see most of the must-have kit materials present in a pre-fab survival kit. Assuming that the apparel you are wearing in your survival situation is sufficient for providing you with shelter until rescue, the SOL will be able to assist with… Full review

Brunton Brunton/Gerber Survival Combo

Excellent kit for the price. Nothing fancy, but everything works well. The knife from Gerber is a good size for carrying just about anywhere and comes with a good edge on it. The fire starter throws showers of sparks with little effort. The compass is simple to use and easy to read. I'm going to buy another kit to keep in the truck in its original package just for emergencies. Great gift idea for the price. Full review

Brunton Survival Card Kit

I have had this thing in my wallet for years. Keep in mind, this isn't a complete survival kit. I've added a large scalpel blade, a FLOSSCARD, a couple unlubed condoms, and a few water treatment tablets sealed in cellophane into my wallet as well. In a pinch, I think it would have me covered in an unexpected survival situation. But, keep in mind that I have extensive primitive survival training. The fresnel lens will start a fire, on a sunny day. I would use the FLOSSCARD to construct a bow for… Full review
