I bought this jacket primarily to ski in and I have to say it has been excellent. It is very wind proof but also very breathable. I was out on a day with a lot of melt and stayed very dry. The jacket, while not waterproof, is very water resistant.

I was also out on a day when it was 13F with 30mph winds and was very comfortable. I have never been cold in this jacket and have only gotten warm and a little sweaty on a few very long bump runs, but I just opened the pockets which are vented and was comfortable again within seconds. The fabric is soft, but not extremely soft, but this is expected with a soft shell meant for colder weather.

My only gripe is about the fit of this jacket. I think for hiking or climbing I would have bought a medium, but I wanted a little more space for a base and mid-layer for cold weather so I got a large. The sleeves on this jacket are very long, even with a medium hey would have been long. The jacket does have velcro straps on the sleeve to tighten down though, so the problem isn't that annoying while skiing, but can be when wearing it around town.
