The North Face Chilkat

I have owned my North Face Chilkat winter boots for several years but they are only worn on winter walking and snow shoeing holidays. The stitching between the leather boot upper and the black toe piece had come apart along the stitching line on both boots and the black plastic has split. I have found by researching online that this failure has happened to many people in the same way. It is clearly a design flaw. Oboz Bridger 10" Insulated Waterproof

Fits just like the mid Bridgers Have lots of Oboz in 12 wide because it is the only shoe that fits me perfectly every time. I have wide toes and a narrow heel and need what is known as a "combination last". Oboz in wide is an EE toes and a C heel which with a Smartwool extra cushion hiking sock makes a perfection fit for me. I got the 10 inch height for two reasons  - it was on sale and I can wash the mud off with a hose and keep my socks dry. I think it has good insulation although have never… Full review

L.L.Bean Bean Boots, 8" Tumbled-Leather Padded Collar

THE new classic for mucky weather. Tall enough to keep snow out. The high quality leather on these is nice and soft.   THE new classic for mucky weather. In Alaska known as Juneau Tennis Shoes. Used to have a pair of the Rubber Mocs and wore them all the time in Alaska. Was excited to get new boots as the Intermountain West has lots of snowy, mushy changeable weather. I first ordered the 6” boots, but they chaffed my ankle. LL Bean’s superlative customer support exchanged them for the upgrade… Full review

Merrell Continuum Boot

Don’t buy this product I used it for few days last year when it snowed and stored it after a year I used it again and the upper part just torn out. I phone warranty from Merrell and told me it just normal wear and tear. I’ve worn it for probably 5 times and still looks brand new.  guest what Merrell emailed me and said I’m entitled for replacement. I will update later  Full review

The North Face Chilkat

. I am just so utterly disappointed in this product that I am still compelled to write to you. These boots are effective, in regards to comfort, waterproofing, and traction, but I was just so appalled today when they basically self destructed while simply out for a short walk. Look at the tread to see how gently these have been used. They have been used for a maximum of 20-30 times. To me, it is unconscionable to produce footwear made of materials that are unable to hold up better than this. I’ve… Full review

The North Face Chilkat

I cannot believe The North Face Chilkat boots. I ordered them, tried them on at home, went upstairs, and both boots split at the seams. Using cheap foreign sweat factories there is no quality check or put through endurance testing. Charging top prices for cheap labour. It comes down to greed. The North Face should be fined for exploitation of sweat factories and exploitation of customers who made The North Face the billion dollar company that they are and stayed loyal. I will never buy The North… Full review

The North Face Chilkat

Same issue boot cracking and disintegrating. Its NOT a design flaw. Its INTENTIONAL. The plasticized rubber is fragile and dries up over time. It is planned obsolescence. Plan on getting 2 years out of them IF your version was recently manufactured. FYI- same is happening with other brands, Columbia Sorel, etc.The less "rubber" that is used in the product, the less time it will last. You can tell by the feel of the rubber. If its slippery and feels like plastic that means less rubber. Compare that… Full review

The North Face Chilkat

I love North Face gear…now except for the footwear.   Photos taken before throwing these in the garbage can     I had kept these shoes in the original box in my closet waiting to put them to good use. When I finally planned a trip to Yosemite, I was excited to finally get that chance. First day, first hike I noticed cracks in the boot. Thats how it started. As the day wore on, the plastic toe began to crack and separate from the leather boot. Before the day was over one shoe was intact and… Full review

Steger Mukluks CamuksXtreme

My wife and I own several pairs of Steger Mukluks to include the CamuksXtreme. I purchased this model when they were first offered, therefore the soles on my CamuksXtremes are thin, for snow, not for rough rocky terrain. I didn't and don't like the thin soles for hunting in rocky terrain, but I made them work with a pair of Superfeet Green insoles, plus the wool felt insoles I bought with the CamuksXtreme. I haven't hunted, nor have I worn my Camuks for several years. I parked my CamuksXtremes next… Full review
