Timberline internal frame

rated 5.0 of 5 stars

Timberline is no longer in business, and the internal frame has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best weekend packs for 2024.

First of all, I do not want the company Timberline confused with Timberland and especially TimberTop. TimberTop makes very poor quality packs. Timberline is the opposite. Enough said.

As for organization, it is pretty bare bones. There is a fair sized lid pocket on the top and a convienient shov-it panel on the back. The shov-it is very nice for storing a fleece jacket or a sleeping pad. It also has a small mesh pocket on the front. The pack is a simple top loading design and does not have sleeping bag access, but I personally like the no-bells-and-whistles set-up.

As for comfort, this pack does a superior job. The back panel has two breathable open-cell foam things for cushioning with an air channel in between to keep you cool. The hipbelt is also very soft. It does need a little bit more support for heavier loads, though. My only problem with the comfort of this pack is that the lumbar pad goes up too high on my back. With a full load, it is flattened somewhat and I do not notice it. When the pack is not full though, it is a mite bit uncomfortable. This pack has three compressions straps on each side which give it great stability and load control. When the straps are all tightened, you can jump on a trampoline and the pack will not move. I consider this a major plus. This pack also has ice-axe loops, axe keepers, and a daisy chain. On the lines of durablity, this pack is bombproof. You are not going to blow a seam on this one.

The small details also please on this pack. There is a rubberized bottom that is completely waterproof. There are two mesh pockets on the side that come with water bottles, but you can use them to hold the essentials too. Another thing I like is the weight-3.5 lbs. I got this pack on a close-out bargain for $50. Unfortunately, I do not know the exact model name nor whether it still exists, so buy it if you can find it. Overall, a great pack. I would give it a 4.7 out of 5. Happy Trails.
