Vibram Men's FiveFingers TrekSport

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I purchased these as a bit of an impulse. I wanted something to protect my feet at a slippery boat launch, and as I live in a small town these ended up being the only option in the sport-sandal category. I probably wouldn't have considered these otherwise, as I always thought they were a bit of a gimmick. I was wrong.  The first thing about these is they're a bit hard to get on initially. Trying to get each toe to go into the right part of the shoe was trying (nearly impossible for my wife). After… Full review

Altra Men's Lone Peak 1.5

rated 4 of 5 stars A great shoe for fastpacking with lots of toe space. I wore these shoes as thru hiking shoes. They were the most comfortable thing I'd put on my foot during the whole trail, especially after wearing the Merrell barefoot shoes for several hundred miles. I experienced zero blisters or foot issues in these shoes over about 500+ miles which was quickly reaching the life of the shoes. The uppers wear quickly and Altra is incredibly hard to get in contact with to warranty anything. They are NOT water… Full review

Altra Women's Superior 1.5

rated 4 of 5 stars Light and tough, this shoe is made for the trail. The roomy toe-box and wide footbed create a non-confining space without any sacrifices in security. This product is best for runners and long distance hikers who are looking for an ultralight shoe to support them on trails. 4 stars because tread could be improved. Light and tough, this shoe is made for the trail. The roomy toe-box and wide footbed create a non-confining space without any sacrifices in security. You will have no foot claustrophobia… Full review

Altra Men's Torin 2.0

rated 5 of 5 stars Versatile shoe that works on the trail or on the city streets. Great fit. Lively colors. I just tried my new shoes in the rain and in the cold. Quick dry time and feet were comfortable in moderate cold. Traction has been excellent on a variety of surfaces including dirt trail and rocks. I have a high arch and the shoe has worked well for me so far. The sole runs even the length of the shoe and is doing a good job of absorbing pounding when I sprint.  Full review

Altra Men's Lone Peak Polartec Neoshell

rated 4 of 5 stars Waterproof/breathable upgrade to the Lone Peak 2.0. Nothing new, I've been a big fan of Altra since the begining so my opinion is most likely biased. The new Neoshells are pretty right on. First putting them on I felt they were a little roomier inside and also a lot thicker, more padded upper. They almost felt half size too big. Opposite to the Superior 2.O that fit a half size smaller. Simple fix, put on heavier weight Darn Tough sock, get out there and hit some trail. Later I realized the new… Full review

Brooks Men's PureGrit 3

rated 3 of 5 stars The PureGrit 3s are comfortable overall trail shoes if you have wide feet. They have good grip and breathe well, but the soles tend to separate at the toe and the elastic "Nav-Band" wears out over time. I have been wearing the PureGrit 3 shoes for the past five months. According to my Misfit Shine, they surpassed 750-miles of use some time last night (After contacting Brooks, I was informed that the expected lifespan of these shoes is somewhere between 250 - 300 miles). In this time, I have worn… Full review

Salomon Men's XT Wings 3

rated 4 of 5 stars Do you routinely run through the mud, rock gardens, or over roots? Then this shoe is for you! These are true to fit, have excellent protection and traction. I strongly recommend these shoes for the following reasons. The sole plate is solid so those pointy rocks that you run on won't mess up your feet. The toe guard is perfect for when you stub your toe on a big rock or root. The tread is awesome and provides excellent traction in the mud, sandy soil or the aforementioned rock gardens. It is true… Full review

Salomon Women's XR Mission

rated 5 of 5 stars It is perfect for trail running then hitting the streets. It has an automatic lace system which comes in handy when running so you don't have to worry about tying your shoes. All around fantastic quality trail running shoe. I'm hiking the JMT next summer and right now I am training and these shoes are perfect for training. I wouldn't recommend doing long treks with these because the tread is more for daily trail runs. I run 5 miles a day on trails and these are perfect for that. Full review

Topo Athletic Men's MT

rated 5 of 5 stars Light, flexible, zero drop, with enough protection for the average trail. I've liked the two Topo road shoes I've tried, the RT and ST.  The MT is a good complement for use off road on anything other than rocky technical trails. They fit well in my 9.5, transition well, and look good as well. I like them especially for local cross country races, and wish I had a pair like them back in the ancient days of '70s cross.
