Inov-8 Men's Trailroc 245

rated 5 of 5 stars This trailrunner may be a lightweight, but it's a heavy hitter when it comes to function. Light weight, good grip, and moderate longevity makes for an excellent three-season shoe on the trails. Low footdrop and minimal padding provides just enough foot protection from below while keeping your center of gravity low. I have owned several other Inov-8 shoes, and this is by far the best model I've purchased to date. Living in East Tennessee, most of my hiking is on trails in the Great Smoky Mountain… Full review

Hoka Men's Challenger ATR

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I believe the shoe is best for technical trails (sandy, rocky, dry powdery dirt trails, and muddy slippery trails). I have used them in all of the above conditions and have been very pleased. They are great for more groomed trails as well, but seem to really excel in the tougher conditions. They could be used on the road but it would be a waste of their excellent traction. I would recommend them to anyone running technical trails, especially the rocky and sometimes sandy stuff we get here in Utah. Full review

Montrail Men's FluidFlex II

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This is the perfect trail/road hybrid for me. It features soft yet responsive midsole, aggressive yet road-friendly outsole, and an upper that fits like a sock...but it's not quite "perfect." Plain and simple: I love this shoe. Montrail's Fluidflex 2 has worked out to be nearly the perfect shoe for my foot and the running that I do. My typical activity is 50/50 moderately technical trail and road, so my aim was to find a single shoe that would do most everything for me. That's not to say that I… Full review

Hoka Men's Mafate Speed

rated 4 of 5 stars Great shoe. Comfortable, great Hoka sole with lots of cushion, and great grip for granite and other hard surfaces. If you are looking for a comfortable shoe with lots of cushion to help the knees and back, you may have found it. Great Hoka comfort and off trail sole too. The soles are large (they say 40% more than a normal sole) and great grip for granite and other hard surfaces. Shoe is a little narrow, so you might want to go a 1/2 size larger if you have anything but a narrow foot. I actually… Full review

Inov-8 Men's Terroc 330

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Comfortable, light trail runner. Fits my wide feet without a problem. Fit: I have a wide foot and can wear some 8 1/2 shoes, this being one of them. Lacing is fine. I wear thin merino wool socks with these, my heel doesn't slip. Comfort: Didn't need any breaking in, I first wore them on a 10 mile hike.  Dirt easily gets through them and a tick got through the shoe and my socks once. I would like to get gaiters at some point. Support: My everyday shoe has no support (Soft Star Rambler) so these… Full review

The North Face Men's Single-Track II

rated 5 of 5 stars The North Face Single Track II is very durable, lightweight and very good at trail running, very good design. Tenacious grip for slippery trail. Snake plate for running in comfort even when the trail is rough. Dome cradle for knee support and to absorb the shock. I love the North Face. From the Manufacturer:The North Face launched their line of trekking and trail-running shoes to address the head-to-toe needs of those always striving for the next horizon. They are deeply proud to be the first choice… Full review

Inov-8 Men's Roclite 295

rated 5 of 5 stars An excellent performer in almost any trail conditions. So I've had these runners for over a year. They are excellent. They are still performing and have yet to show any real sign of wear and tear — even on the soles. I've given them a fair bashing and they are still holding up. When I first got them I took them out of the box and straight on to the trail. No break-in was required.  I generally run the Waitakere Ranges in these — winter and summer. In winter the tracks in the ranges are rain… Full review

Hoka Men's Challenger ATR

rated 4 of 5 stars I got the shoe in December to start incorporating them into training for the HURT 100 in Hawaii. They did great on the frozen trails and winter back roads of Maine. But I was still not sure how this would correspond to the heavily rooted technical running on Oahu. After multiple 20 mile training runs on the HURT course as well as using them for 85 miles during the race I can say they withstood everything I threw at them. Specs: Purpose: Trail Offset: 5mm Heel: 29mm Forefoot: 24mm Weight: 8.6 oz. Full review

Salomon Men's Sense Mantra

rated 5 of 5 stars From Meh! to Wow! I had to attend an unexpected 55k trail race and after research I didn't think that my regular trail shoes (Vibram Spyridon) were suitable. I found a Salomon retailer with a good sale and I chose these Mantras. The reasons to buy them were that they were light enough for a 6 hours long run, and the outsole looked good but not over-specialized to mud or to rock.  Although all the theory was good, when I tried them on, I didn't feel nothing. Completely underwhelmed. I am used to… Full review
