Pacerpole 3-Section Alloy

rated 5 of 5 stars I've always thought the handles on my trekking poles should be angled forward to better match the natural position of my hands and to better simulate a hand railing. The Pacerpoles people were reading my mind. For 15 years, I've backpacked with the same pair of Leki Super Makalu poles I bought at the NOC during my 2000 thru hike. Even though the Leki's handles are tilted forward just slightly, I've often thought that it would be better to tilt the handles of trekking poles farther forward to better… Full review

Komperdell Shockmaster

rated 5 of 5 stars Very nice poles for beginners...well within the price range for good equipment. Bought these as my first pair of poles and have found them to be quite good and a non-expensive way to break into the use of trekking poles. Full review

Black Diamond Trail Back

rated 3.5 of 5 stars These hiking poles are a great bargain for any hiker on a budget. I ended up getting these for $55 and I'm very happy with my purchase. These poles are perfect for the price that comes along. I like the grips even though they can slip a bit when they are wet or your hands are sweaty. They fold down to a very manageable size that fits in my day pack no problem. I would recommend these poles for any hiker that is on a budget. It's amazing how much poles help on both the ascent and descent. I loved… Full review

Leki Corklite

rated 5 of 5 stars Great handle design and straps — makes all the difference in how poles help hikers. Just add rubber tips and you are ready for any mountain and desert terrain. Summary The best handles I have used, great for uphill, downhill and ease of use on any other terrain. Adjustability for handle straps and pole length is easy and quick. No slippage on locking mechanism. I suggest getting the rubber tips to cover the carbide, makes for improved grip on rock. My Experience with Poles I have used a few… Full review

Mckinley Ascent

rated 4 of 5 stars Lightweight and strong. These poles were definitely not the most expensive but are plenty strong enough, very quickly adjusted, and one of the lightest sets of poles I could find at 230 grams. Grips are comfortable, straps are adjustable but do seem to slip a bit. This isn't a big deal. I may not have them locked in well enough. Would like more colour selection. Mine are a copper colour, which is very nice but there were no choices that I could find.   Full review

Black Diamond Unisex Trail Pro Shock

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Four years old and still going strong. I have had a pair of these poles for four years now and as I get farther away from 50 I use them more and more. They break down to the length of my pack. The shock system looks look it will never wear out unlike the old Leki system. They lock up tight and you just need to tighten a small screw if not, unlike the old twist system on the old Leki. I have also had to 2-hand these poles when sliding down an avi slope still filled with snow. The straps are wide… Full review

Cascade Mountain Tech Quick Lock Carbon Fiber Cork Grip Trekking Poles

rated 4.5 of 5 stars The Cascade trekking poles are a very good design and construction. They appear to be very durable long-term. They are certainly a bargain for the price, delivering good performance, as good or better than many better-known, higher priced poles. Background: The conventional wisdom is that poles provide better balance, promote rhythm when hiking, and “4 points on the ground”, especially on steep, rough trails, when carrying heavy loads. I have been using poles since I was very young, first as… Full review

Black Diamond Ultra Mountain Carbon

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Excellent poles. Lightweight and strong. An excellent pair of trekking poles. Very lightweight. Easy to deploy. Without question the Ultra Mountain Carbon Z Poles' greatest attribute is not having one section of a pole collapse into another section when a lot of weight is applied on a downhill. The only problem is if they need to be broken down to scale an uphill section of trail by hand; the tips of the poles will probably not stay locked in the cutout of the basket. I broke them down and hung… Full review

Black Diamond Distance Carbon Z

rated 5 of 5 stars Indispensable, durable, lightweight trail tool for hiking, trail running, and backpacking. Possibly my favorite piece of gear. Hard pressed to find a situation where I do not bring along these poles since they are so light and portable.  Fit is determined by height of user. Come in a couple of different sizes, I use the 120mm model which is the size recommended for my height. Grips and straps are very comfortable, I tend to use with gloves and have noticed absolutely no chaffing or pain. Only problem… Full review
