Black Diamond Contour Elliptic Shock

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Most comfortable, lightweight trekking poles I have ever used. No slippage whatsoever with their awesome locking mechanism. The hand straps are adjustable and wider, much more comfortable then others I have owned. The grips are very comfortable, which is what I chose these for as I have some issues with my hands aching after a long hike. So far none with these. Once you adjust the pole length the locking mechanism holds tight with no slipping or readjusting necessary. The shocks work great and… Full review

Leki Makalu Ultralite

rated 4 of 5 stars Superbly built poles allow confident use in a variety of conditions--creek crossings, uphills, downhills, as shelter supports, etc. Leki Speedlocks work great, allowing for swift adjustment with no worries about the locks giving way. There are lighter poles out there, but these are solid, reliable, and a pleasure to use. This may be an old school review. You see, years ago Leki made the Makalu. I've had these poles for quite some time. A lot of miles in sun and rain and snow. My Leki Makalu Ultralite… Full review

Black Diamond Distance

rated 4 of 5 stars Got these at last year's summer REI Garage sale and they were never used. They have changed my hikes completely! Love these poles. They have extended my downhills and are completely worth the negligible wieght! Full review

Black Diamond Syncline

rated 4 of 5 stars Surprisingly, these hold up well when used for climbing various routes up 14'ers. Mine have never failed and the quick flick-lock adjustment is fantastic when speed is of the essence on rough routes or bad weather..etc. I'll keep using them and buying new ones as long as they are available! The upper grips work well with and without gloves...the lower sponge grips could use more outward tapering at the bases to allow your hands to "set" in place for longer climbs. Over-all, they are worth the purchase… Full review

Black Diamond Unisex Trail Shock

rated 5 of 5 stars Sturdy, lightweight hiking poles that utilize Black Diamond's FlickLock technology for securing the poles to whatever length you need for all terrain. I decided to replace my 12-year-old set of hiking poles because the twist mechanism inside the shaft kept slipping on one of them. I took it apart and super glued it the locking mechanism back together because it had split in half, but at that point I started wondering when the other pole would do the same thing or when the glue on my repair would… Full review

REI Hiker Shocklight Staff

rated 5 of 5 stars A sturdy lightweight staff that provides plenty of support for the backpacker who wants a hand free while hiking. When my much loved Leki Makalu Tour trekking poles finally wore out after years and miles of use, I thought I might prefer a different approach when replacing them.  I decided after much consideration, to go with a hiking staff instead of trekking poles.  I so far have not regretted my decision.  My one staff, while not super light at 10 ounces, is still lighter than two trekking… Full review

Mountainsmith Trekker FX MonoPod

rated 5 of 5 stars I generally use two poles for winter hiking and snowshoeing; but for summer treks, I find one pole is sufficient, and easier to keep out of the way during scrambles. Last summer, I decided to put away the single ski pole I had used for summer, and try an actual trekking pole. I did not want to spend a lot of money, as this was going to be new—using an adjustable pole, with spring mechanism. My husband and I bought the same model...well, I am now sold, and really like the Mountainsmith Trekker… Full review

Black Diamond Women's Distance FL

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Your knees will thank you for this welcome addition to your hiking adventures! I had knee surgery almost two years ago, and since that time have been under strict instruction by my orthopedic surgeon to only return to hiking under one condition: always use trekking poles. Although I began the experience as a necessary concession, I have come to truly appreciate my poles. The Black Diamond Women's Distance FL poles have been wonderful hiking companions. The Z-Pole design allows them to fold up into… Full review

Leki Trail Antishock

rated 5 of 5 stars Excellent product, light and strong. In my research I ran across the other review on this page. Read what he wrote and take it to heart. These are great poles at a great price. While I've only had them for a month they've seen rock, dirt, rain and snow and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. While the grips are composite the feel very comfortable in my hands although I wish they had a touch more thickness. But I also have larger hands so this probably won't be an issue for most. The straps,… Full review
