Recent Trekking Pole Reviews

Leki Quantum

rated 5 of 5 stars The Leki Quantum is a stable, dependable workhorse trekking pole. If you spend any time on trails... flats, declines or inclines... work smarter not harder with Leki poles. This unisex pole is worthy of the beginner or the pro. I am uncertain what kept me from getting a pair of trekking poles in the past, perhaps pride...thinking they were for the weak, possibly embarrassment...too concerned what others might think, possibly price...the good one's aren't cheap, probably a combination of all of those. Black Diamond Alpine Ergo Cork

rated 5 of 5 stars My first use of the poles was on the flat terrain of the Florida Trail. Lightweight, they didn't do much or cause a problem, so meh. Then I section hiked the AT, what a help! They dug in where I wanted, their light weight became an advantage at the end of the day and the rigid poles didn't have that awkward spongy feel of the anti shock poles I used before. Then, at night, they double as poles for my rain-fly. All in all, the best pole for my money I have ever bought. I am a novice hiker that is… Full review

Black Diamond Trail Pro Shock

rated 4.5 of 5 stars All around great product—five stars. These poles are great. Easy to adjust. Great shock absorbers. Great support. Carbon interchangeable tips. Best on the market. Full review

REI Men's Carbon Composite Power Lock Trekking Poles

rated 5 of 5 stars I have used these for hiking in all sorts of conditions and trails. They are very sturdy. The FlickLocks make them very easy to adjust while hiking. I have used these poles for hiking, backpacking, and setting up my backpacking tarp. I have put lots of mileage on these poles in terrain from snow, rocks, sand, pavement, and dirt. The FlickLocks make it so I can change them while moving and not worry about them changing lengths. The lengths are easy to read on each pole section.  I have used them… Full review

Black Diamond Trail Pro Shock

rated 5 of 5 stars Best trekking poles I've owned. Locks are secure and don't slip....at all. Great quality. If you're looking for quality trail poles, then look no further. Quality, comfort, and durability—these trekking poles have it all! Once adjusted they stay locked in place without any slipping. Excellent hand grips and wrist straps. The shock system is not too spongy, nice and firm not sloppy. Carbide tips are great. My only complaint is that the replacement rubber tips are very small. But not a deal breaker. Full review

Quechua Forclaz 500 Light

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Lightweight, affordable, sturdy, and compact. Bought them used, but like new. Maybe they were stolen. Who would know? Paid for them 15 EUR. They are worth every cent. Full review

KÖPPEN Haltbar

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Threaded insert for length adjustment disintegrated making pole useless. Dick's Sporting Goods won't stand behind its brand. I can't even get a replacement part. Koppen's website customer service referred me to Dick's and Dick's referred me back to them. I bought a set of these poles new at Dick's for $60 about two years ago. The threaded insert failed recently and wouldn't allow the pole to collapse. I continued to use it since it was at the correct height for me. Well, recently the part failed… Full review

Black Diamond Distance Carbon FLZ

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Lightweight, strong, compact, and adjustable. I have used trekking poles on my trips for a number of years, and like them a lot. They're helping me get extra miles out of my creaky knees. I have used adjustable Black Diamond Cork poles up to now. I like the forward leaning grips on those, but that feature means they won't collapse down to as small a size as some. Regardless, they've been very good, but I thought I'd try the superlight option out to get a smaller (packable) size with a bit less weight,… Full review

Cascade Mountain Tech Quick Lock Carbon Fiber Cork Grip Trekking Poles

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Carbon fiber hiking poles with top of the line features And from Costco for $29.95. The list of pros above says it all. These poles offer great features for a very low price. I did cut off the foam "extended grips" below the cork handles because they added unused weight, at least for me.  I like that the poles came with both small on-piste snow baskets and large backcountry baskets as well as a "foot-shaped" tip cap for muddy conditions.  The pole straps, aside from being fast adjustable, have… Full review
