Great product for the most part. Not so great when there is rain with wind. Excellent workmanship with a minor flaw in design.
- Waterproof fly
- Great headroom
- Wind resistant
- 4 Pole design
- Great ventilation
- Leaky door (only in HEAVY rain with wind)
This is a great BASIC tent for the casual car camper. As with all 4 person tents, this one will fit 2-3 adults comfortably. It will also be good for a family of 4 with 2 YOUNG kids if you are car camping and most of your luggage will be in the car.
The tent is well made for the price point. The fly and the floors are seam sealed and they stay sealed. However one problem I had with his tent is that the fly did not extend enough over the doors to prevent water from entering the tent through the door-seams that connect the mesh and the fabric. It was only a small drip but it's enough to annoy you.
This is only a problem when you have heavy rains with winds. So this is a problem with design and not workmanship. I am not sure if I can seam seal that seam because it is between the mesh and fabric in the door.
The 4 pole design makes the tent sturdy and wind resistant and provides maximum headroom over a larger area. It is rare that you will see a 4 pole design on a 4-person tent at this price point.
There was condensation through the floor even with a tarp under it. But this is an issue with even the best tent out there. This is even more of an issue when it is raining and if you are camped near a water body and the surrounding is humid. The only solution is to use a canvas tarp INSIDE the tent or use air mattresses or sleeping pads.
Overall this is a GREAT tent for summer camping. This tent is waterproof for a very large extent but if you expect heavy rains with winds that change direction, then you may want to consider a tent with a full rain fly that completely covers the door as well. If you are the casual camper (1-5 nights per year) then look no further. If you camp more than that or if you do wilderness camping (i.e. not in campgrounds) then you may want to consider a higher quality tent.
Also note that the company that made these tents (Tippmann) have discontinued production of camping gear. However they are still in business.
