OMeals Brown Rice, Quinoa & Lentils

rated 3 of 5 stars It's good food, heats very well, but despite company claims as the backpacking food that'll change backpacking, each meal is so heavy that they are really only good for activities like canoeing/rafting, day hiking, car camping. I stopped by REI Albuquerque to get some food for an additional setup week at my camp at Burning Man.  I got items from Mountain House, Backpacker's Pantry, etc and they had something new, self-heating OMeals, so I bought eight meals. They are ready-to-eat, not freeze-dried… Full review

Mountain House Pasta Primavera

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a new favorite meal from Mountain House. It was cheesy, delicious, filling, and very easy to make. The veggies were good also. Great vegetarian option! I tried this meal as a member of another site in exchange for a review while at Lodgepole Overflow Campground in Lake Alpine. This meal was very easy to make and filling and had a lot of flavor. It is an excellent backpacking choice because it's lightweight and delicious. A huge benefit is that it cooks quickly with minimal equipment. All… Full review

Good To-Go Thai Curry

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Restaurant-quality food on the trail. Simple as that. I’ve tried the Thai Curry from Good-to-Go twice and both times the food was delicious and easy to prepare. Generally speaking, I avoid pouch meals and prefer to make my own with a combination of store bought goods and home dehydrated goods. However, those meals tend to be more simple and straightforward. The Thai curry is flavorful and worth the few extra dollars. I’ll continue picking up one of Good-to-Go’s pouched meals for multi-day… Full review

Packit Gourmet Southwest Black Bean & Corn Salad

rated 5 of 5 stars One of my favorite backcountry meals. Great when you don't feel like "cooking". One of my very favorite backcountry meals is this black bean and corn salad from Packit Gourmet. It's a flavorful, no hassle meal, which should be a part of your backpack on every trip. Packit Gourmet classifies this as a "lunch" in their catalog, but I have found that it packs plenty of nutritional punch when paired with byo tortillas. One of the nice things about this meal is, that it is a cold-prep meal, so you don't… Full review

Packit Gourmet Trailside Black Bean and Cheese Burrito

rated 4 of 5 stars Another affordable, filling, easy to make meal from Packit Gourmet. I haven't had a single thing from them that I've been disappointed with. Always full of flavor without the giant dose of sodium like many competitors. Taste: I was expecting a fairly bland burrito but was pleasantly surprised to find some good flavors hiding inside. Lots of onion, cumin, and garlic pop. I chose to heat it up with some hot sauce I brought along as well as a small packet of sour cream. This was a nice change from… Full review

Backpacker's Pantry Chana Masala

rated 5 of 5 stars Backpacker’s Pantry’s updated recipe of Chana Masala is a very flavorful and surprisingly filling dehydrated meal that has the perfect blend of Indian curry spices, rice, chilies, and garbanzo beans (chick peas). It is vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and nut-free, so almost anyone can eat this meal without worry. In addition to great flavor, it feeds two people for under $7.     When I first saw Backpacker’s Pantry Chana Masala, I didn't think it was something that I would have bought for… Full review

Packit Gourmet Potato Samosas with Mango Chutney

rated 5 of 5 stars Super flavorful and easy to prep trail meal. Another rocking meal from Packit Gourmet! Packit Gourmet consistently comes up with trail meals that far exceed the competition in quality and flavor while maintaining ease of prep and price.   Prep on the trail today took about 30 minutes using the hot prep method. As usual the servings are extremely generous, I used 4 tortillas as opposed to the 2 suggested in the instructions. The included mango chutney is killer. It's what makes the meal. Exploding… Full review

Packit Gourmet Pizza Margherita Wrap

rated 4 of 5 stars Tasty lunch or dinner meal that's really easy to prep and takes very little water. Lots of pizza seasoning. I would add some slices of pepperoni or salami. I'm a big fan of Packit Gourmet and have used them for years, however I've never tried this. I prepped at home out of boredom and curiosity. This is cold prep, however I didn't like the taste so I wrapped and grilled in a pan. This took four tortillas. I will likely use this as a trail lunch to share. The cheese melted nicely and has tons of… Full review

Good To-Go Thai Curry

rated 5 of 5 stars If you like lots of flavor this is your meal! My favorite trail meal! Spicy and flavorful, this beats most of my local restaurants. The instructions are dead on with timing and water required, add time for cold weather. The broccoli holds its texture better than you think and the coconut milk is an amazing detail. Try this, I think you will love it! Full review
