L.L.Bean Men's PrimaLoft Packaway Vest

rated 5 of 5 stars I had been looking for a lightweight, but warm, vest to wear under my anorak shell, and it seems that recently the packaway style vests have become very popular. I was not convinced that this light, easily packable, vest would add much warmth, but I was wrong! It is very comfortable, and work great under a shell, or alone over a base layer, for winter hiking and snowshoeing. I expect this vest will serve nearly year-round duty. This is a really nice vest, which has surpassed my expectations...from… Full review

Patagonia Men's Down Sweater Vest

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a great vest for everyday use, but is also durable enough to use in many outdoor activities. Made from light and fluffy 800 fill down, this vest keeps your core warm and can pack down smaller than a softball. Because Patagonia makes gear that's out of my price range, I either have to save up some money for a while to get what I want, or I have to wait for things to go on sale (or sometimes both). At $179 MSRP, this vest was way out of my price range until last year when my local gear shop… Full review

Big Agnes Late Lunch Vest

rated 4 of 5 stars ** Please see the addendum at the end of this review Big Agnes has applied their knowledge of down to their foray into apparel. The women’s Late Lunch Vest uses 700 fill power DownTek water repellent down, and they have applied their Insotect Flow vertical baffles which are designed to keep the wearer warm. While the down does shuck water, and the vest is warm, a major drawback is the vest’s fit. Warmth, durability, quality—fantastic! Fit…mmm – needs some tweaking. Company Specs Mid-weight… Full review

Arc'teryx Men's Atom LT Vest

rated 4 of 5 stars Great extra bit of core insulation for over your base layer or under your main puffy. I often run really warm while I'm moving, but cool down very fast when I'm done for the day. I often bring only a very thin base layer and windshirt, even when quite cold, and then use a thicker than expected down jacket for when I'm done. I often think of bringing a fleece so I have something for on the move, or for when it gets extra cold to wear with my puffy, but because of bulk and weight I often don't. Last… Full review

Patagonia Men's Ultralight Down Vest

rated 5 of 5 stars I had never owned a down vest before, but the Patagonia Ultralight Down Vest is worth the investment. I have found that this vest can be used hiking, biking, around town, working outside or downstairs in my basement (very cold)!! It is an excellent core warmer and doesn't weigh anything. You forget you have it on. I would recommend this as an important part of your outdoor apparel. The Patagonia Ultralight Down Vest is going to become a favorite new piece in your outdoor collection. The vest is… Full review

The North Face Men's Nuptse Vest

rated 5 of 5 stars More than enough for anything short of Arctic conditions, this vest has far more utility than I hoped for. This was a clearance item, an impulse buy, and a dam'd good one. I have never bought a down vest in 50+ years of backpacking, so this is a new experience for me. This thing was very warm when I tried it on in the store. Seriously, I have never warmed up so fast from a single piece of clothing (the small store (<1500' sq) was very cold as the AC was on full blast). Between this and my Marmot… Full review

Recreation Before Responsibility Nylon RipStop Vest

rated 4.5 of 5 stars First off, top notch materials, for the hardcore adventurers to staying warm around the fire this is an amazing product. Great fit, function is well thought out, and tailored design meet fashionable and functional. I have tried the jacket and vest, the thought in how the garment is made and assembled is really notable when you are on a long hike or lounging around and forget that you are wearing the garment. The longer tail in the back covers you when you move around and are not surprised by a cold… Full review

Black Diamond CoEfficient Vest

rated 5 of 5 stars The Black Diamond Coefficient Vest is a worthy addition to the gear list for anyone venturing out to cool or cold places. It serves well as a mid-layer in colder weather, or even as a top layer in moderate to warmer temperatures and while active. It’s compact, and light, so it's easy to carry along. It's also durable so it can be counted on out on the trail. The reviewer getting ready for a hike along the California coast updated 20-Apr-2014 with confirmed weight Review Conditions Due to personal… Full review

Recreation Before Responsibility Nylon RipStop Vest

rated 5 of 5 stars Although there are many choices in this modern world of high-tech outdoor gear, this vest makes my day, every day. While its fabric, materials, and construction details are top notch bomber, yes really, I am extremely stoked on the fact that everything is handcrafted in America using sustainable practices. They have figured it out and are doing it right on all levels. Go, RBR! Full review
