Recent Warm Weather Down Sleeping Bag Reviews

Sea to Summit Micro MC II

rated 5 of 5 stars I had forgotten how clever I thought this bag was. It is meant to be light, so don't complain about what it lacks but they try to compensate in other ways. They have just tried to leave the essential bits. The zipper baffle is stiffened just enough to stop it snagging.   It lacks a box foot to save weight... this allows you to open it completely like a quilt and vent the foot end of the bag but you may have to hitch the hole under you on truely cold nights.   The stylish black inner is I assume… Full review

Therm-a-Rest Ventra Down Comforter

rated 4.5 of 5 stars It's lightweight, stays tucked around the pad, and warm for its weight. I love this quilt/blanket. Most of the summer, I can use it alone or with the Therm-a-Rest sheet set and that's all I need. When it's a little cooler, I either add a very small fleece blanket on the inside or wear my fleece long underwear to sleep in. I love the way it wraps around the bottom of the pad. I'm not one who likes to be mummied into a bag, so this lovely blanket allows me maximum movement but keeps me warm. It probably… Full review

Sierra Designs Backcountry Quilt 800 2-Season

rated 5 of 5 stars The Sierra Designs Backcountry Quilt 800 2-Season is a great top quilt for hammock camping. When used with a hammock underquilt, you can comfortably hammock camp down into the mid 20s, or using it without the underquilt, use it into evenings into the 60s. The Backcountry Quilt by Sierra Designs is great addition to my ENO DoubleNest and Blaze underquilt. Loved the built-in hood. It is exactly what I wanted. The footbox is comfortable and prevents the quilt from creeping off. With its included stuff… Full review

Therm-a-Rest Alpine Down Blanket

rated 5 of 5 stars Cost effective, lightweight, ultra-compressible 3-season down blanket. Great for light-weight hikers, campers, backpackers, and hammock hangers. I would recommend this to anyone looking to lighten their load and still be comfortable. I recently acquired the Therm-a-rest Alpine 35 down blanket in regular size from Amazon.com for ~189. I have been looking at top quilts for my hammock for a long time, but nothing was in my price range until I found this. The price was right and I like Therm-a-Rest… Full review

Montane Minimus Sleeping Bag

rated 4.5 of 5 stars The Montane Minimus sleeping bag is very lightweight, 3-season bag, well suited for the light backpacker or climber who will be traveling in damp environments (heavy dew, occasional rainshowers) with minimal shelter, bivouacking in the open, or as an emergency backup. Since it is quite waterproof, the Minimus can act as a combined bivy sack and sleeping bag for much less weight and is more compact. Its major flaw is that it is somewhat awkward to get into due to the zipper design. Background: One… Full review

Western Mountaineering HighLite

rated 4.5 of 5 stars As one of the lightest sleeping bags available, the WM Highlite has high quality construction and a unique sewn-through design that enables it to compress into a 5.5 liter stuff sack and then regain full loft for a comfortable night’s sleep into the mid-30s. It is a great choice for someone wanting ultra-light and still have a full sleeping bag. In my pursuits to lighten the load carried for long distance treks, I came across the Highlite and was immediately drawn in by the overall weight. At… Full review

GoLite UltraLite 1+ Season Quilt

rated 5 of 5 stars For sport motorcycle camping, near ideal. I replaced the straps with elastic straps from REI. They hold the sides close enough for warmth, but allow lots of turning. I use a micro fleece full zip bag liner for a most versatile outfit. Along with my All Season Thermarest Air mattress and inflatable pillow with a cotton pillow case I'm set.  I appreciate the snap behind my head for the coldest set up too. Any colder and I do not want to be out on my bike. I estimate I was comfortable down to about… Full review

GoLite UltraLite 1+ Season Quilt

rated 5 of 5 stars Great, super light 800+ fill down quilt at a great price. Packs very small. The Purchase:  I bought this quilt because I was looking for a lightweight quilt at a reasonable price. GoLite was selling it on their website for $119, but it was out of stock, I found another site that was selling it for $129, so I bought it. I haven't found any other quilt, especially high loft down, anywhere near this price. Warmth: I have only used it in warmer weather with a night time temperature of about 60°F. Full review

Lafuma TMB 40

rated 4 of 5 stars Great bag, super light, good quality. Hiked the AT Vermont section. It kept me warm and comfortable in the Killington area at temps in the high 30s and 40s. Full review
