Recent Warm Weather (above 35°F) Sleeping Bag Reviews

Coleman Bambusa

rated 4.5 of 5 stars It is great for three-season camping and packs down small enough to fit on a bike rack. I bought mine years ago and have camped with it several times. I found it to be great for fitting on my bike pannier rack with my bike packing tent and inflatable mattress. For comfort in extreme cold, I've bought a silk liner to add another season rating, but haven't needed to use it...yet. Full review

Marmot Aspen 40 Ultralight

rated 2.5 of 5 stars The bag is rated at 40 degrees, works pretty good to that temp. It's very lightweight at 1.5 lbs. It's a good summer bag! I bought this bag last summer and used it in warmer nights than its specified 40 degree temp, so used it as a quilt just laid over me at night. It's very lightweight at 1 1/2 lbs and stuffs into a compression stuff sack. It's filled with Polarguard and compresses very well to the size of a soccer ball, so takes up very little room in my backpack or bike panniers. It's a very… Full review

Big Agnes Horse Thief SL 35°

rated 4 of 5 stars A lightweight hoodless option that lightens the load in your summer pack. Recommended for weather where the temps hover around or above 50°F. Warmth: The bag is rated at 35°F. The bag does a fine job in temperatures above 50°F. Mid 40's and below, the comfort level starts to drop off quick. In temperate climates, like the one here in Minnesota, you can judge the weather well enough to make a pretty good estimate of whether you'll be in comfort range.  Fit and Comfort: I must say, the bag is… Full review

Mountain Hardwear Ratio 45

rated 4 of 5 stars Very good warm weather bag. It packs down small, and has good loft for a lightweight summer bag. The zipper only allows it to be used as a quilt for one, as it doesn't extend to the bottom of the bag. Purchased this bag deeply discounted at $100; the regular retails for $199 and the long for $219. As of June 2017 it is still available with big discounts on many websites. I sleep warm, so this bag allows me to sleep comfortably down to 40 degrees in wool 150 weight base layer shirt and long johns. Full review

Deuter DreamLite 500

rated 5 of 5 stars Sweet, durable, comfortable, holds up to its ratings very well. If you don't have one, prioritize getting your Dreamlite. I truly love mine. For the guy with the cord issue, I thought the exact thing. Even considered sliding barrel lock up to perfecto tying a knot and cutting the extra off. But on one trip someone took my backpack. Luckily all my gear and sacks were in the tent with me. Man, figuring out how to lug my gear back out the trail without my backpack was a lot of trial by error and I… Full review

Mountain Equipment Men's Glacier 500

rated 3.5 of 5 stars One of Mountain Equipment's all rounder sleeping bags designed to tackle a wide range of conditions. It does what is says on the tin, keeps you warm when it is cold, however it does have a few drawbacks that would make me consider going for something else. Lets start with the basics.  With an extreme temperature rating of -21 degrees Celsius/ -6 degrees F, Comfort rating of 2 degrees Celsius/ 36 degrees F and a "Good nights sleep rating of -8 degrees Celsius/ 18 degrees F. This bag is going to… Full review

Marmot Always Summer

rated 4 of 5 stars Took this camping on a chilly April night in Utah and it stood up well. I was able to slip a small liner inside as well and it got too warm. This bag kept me incredibly warm and was able to fit a liner in quite easily. However the foot box was smaller than I expected. Not horribly so, but just enough to notice. Getting in and out typically wasn't an issue, however the zipper would get stuck every once in a while. Easy enough to adjust. The bag packs incredibly well and puffs up easily after having… Full review

Sea to Summit Traveller TRI

rated 3.5 of 5 stars This is a cost effective and more than adequate light minimal coverage for a quick summer outing in the woods. It is versatile enough for couch surfing relatives over the holidays. It is just wide enough to cover two cozy campers that are not too big in girth on a not chilly summer outing. Originally bought for couch surfing relatives, but I found it useful as a comforter on a fall evening too. That opened the door to other uses. Took it out for a July 6K ft elevation overnight in Sierra Nevadas… Full review

Sierra Designs Forty Winks

rated 4 of 5 stars Good well-rounded synthetic bag. Medium weight, medium packed size, medium warmth, and durable. This was my first sleeping bag I ever bought, purchased in 2001. I have been happy with the bag, and I think it is a good bag in all categories.  It is not a very lightweight bag, nor does it pack down very small, but it's a mid-priced synthetic bag and I think it is everything that it's supposed to be. Overall I've been pleased with it as a general purpose, well-built bag. Since then I almost always… Full review
