Recent Warm Weather (above 35°F) Sleeping Bag Reviews

Western Mountaineering Everlite 45

rated 5 of 5 stars Great lightweight, adaptable bag. I've used it by itself in warm and muggy summer camping in Northwest Arkansas and in the Black Hills on very cool nights. Love it! I bought this bag in preparation for a week in the Black Hills, South Dakota. It's my first down bag of any weight and I couldn't wait to use it so I snuck away for a weekend in the heat and humidity of Northwest AR. For the first night I really didn't need it till 2-3 a.m. and just used it unzipped as a blanket which it was perfect… Full review

The North Face Lynx

rated 4 of 5 stars Packs down to less than a volleyball in size. Comes with compression sack. Warm even below its rating (35 degrees). Great summer bag. This is a good entry level summer bag for the hiker looking to get out into the woods w/o the 450 dollar bag, 500 dollar tent and 300 dollar backpack. Compresses to a respectable size. Allows you to go into the woods with a 50l pack given you have the right clothing and shelter. I would buy it again. Full review

Western Mountaineering HighLite

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I absolutely love my HighLite! I call it my cloud because that is what it feels like you are sleeping in :). I think the temperature rating is accurate — I sleep a little cold so I wear extra socks and clothes to bed but works well for my section hikes on the AT. It's amazingly light and packs down so small in a compression sack. When removed from the compression sack it regains all loft with a few shakes. I got the 5'6" size which works great for a petite woman. The HighLite is well made, in… Full review

The North Face Dolomite 40/4

rated 4 of 5 stars Lightweight, packable/compressible, can use as a quilt... well made. Bought this bag for summer camping since I have only 20 deg bags. Stayed warm down to high 30s. Below that I was chilled a bit. Great deal for a bag of this weight and quality, couldn't ask for more. Full review

Sierra Designs Backcountry Bed Duo SYN 1.5-Season

rated 5 of 5 stars Someone who sleeps with a partner will find this bag has such great design features that they will know the person who designed it loved and hated doing this many times in the past. tThey distilled all these experiences in one great couples bag! I am 5'8" and weigh 240 lbs and my partner is 5'5 "and weighs 130 lbs. Most of my weight is in the belly, cursed that I am! Considering my proportions, this bag was just a little snug at the mid-section when laying flat next to my partner...not too snug… Full review

MontBell Alpine Burrow Bag Thermal Sheet

rated 2.5 of 5 stars Adds extra warmth to a lightweight sleeping bag to extend its use into colder weather. Very lightweight, but very slim cut won't fit big people, but adds a real 5 to 10 degrees to any sleeping bag depending on your metabolism. The good points first: Like most MB gear it is well made and the design is well thought out. It isn't expensive and it is an excellent idea for those who do not have enough money to buy a warmer sleeping bag and who want to camp in cooler conditions. The short zipper makes… Full review

Sierra Designs Men's Backcountry Bed 600 2-Season

rated 4 of 5 stars Innovative design with no zippers and built-in comforter. Warm below rating for me who usually sleeps cold. Fairly compressible. DriDown works well. Pad stays put in sleeve for good night's sleep. The Backcountry Bed is, as most of you must have heard by now, a new kind of sleep system. It does indeed have the qualities of your bed at home although it is a little harder to get into and out of. I have been using my Backcounty Bed in my yurt at home all winter and have just taken it out into the field… Full review

Marmot Unisex Mavericks 40 Semi Rec

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Simple but great bag. Forthright about the temp rating. Light and packs well for a synthetic. Cost effective. Warmth: Tells the minimum and comfort rating on the bag 25/40. Does well with the rating. Warmth is distributed evenly. Fit and Comfort: The material is very comfortable. It is roomy in the torso. Leaves off the hood to reduce weight.  Entry and Exit: Very easy in and out. Zipper doesn't stick. Moisture: I've never had an issue with moisture. Packability: Packs down to 8 X 10 Loft: Average… Full review

Ozark Trail Sleeping Bag

rated 1 of 5 stars I bought the zero degree bag and nearly froze to death. It cost me a thru hike last year. This is more like a 40 degree bag rating. Day one, night one...the zipper tore and cord in hood broke. It was 4 degrees and I nearly froze. Day 2 ...it was closer to 6 degree and I froze...I had to hike into town, replace the bag. Not worth using as toilet paper. I could have gotten better quality from a teenager's home ec project and lighter weight. I would not recommend this product to anyone unless I wanted… Full review
