Potable Aqua Pure

rated 4 of 5 stars This rechargeable water purifier is an innovative, extremely low maintenance device that almost anyone can use to treat drinking water. Through the process of electrolysis, the Potable Aqua PURE breaks the NaCl molecule in a simple salt water brine solution that produces Chlorine and Peroxide. From backpacking to emergency disaster relief, this small device can be used in a multitude of environments. The reaction chamber in action, fizzing and bubbling The device with its included brine container,… Full review

SteriPEN Classic

rated 5 of 5 stars I've had multiple ways to filter water. I've use drops, tablets, pumps, and used gravity. I've settled on the SteriPEN UV filtration system. I love the ease of use. I simply fill a Nalgene, turn on the light source, and in about 90 seconds I have drinkable water. It includes a pre-filter to keep floaties out. SteriPEN, like most filters, keeps out over 99% of most of the things that can make you sick. It comes with a pre-filter, but if the water is really dirty, I also use a clean bandanna.  The… Full review

SteriPEN Classic 3 with Pre-Filter

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Works very well, but is restricted to certain water containers due to size. I really love this product.  However, it only works with certain bottle sizes.  I don't enjoy the requirement of bringing heavier bottles that will fit the pre-filter.  On the other hand, with good batteries, it lasts quite long. It takes about 30 seconds to treat 0.5L, or about a minute for 1 L. This is fine for one person, but it eventually takes quite a while for a large group, with infrequent water sources (lots of… Full review

First Need Deluxe Water Purifier

rated 5 of 5 stars The only real choice if you want to remove all the nasty bugs/chemicals from your water source with a single self-contained device. I’ve had this First Need purifier for nearly a decade and it has served me and my hiking/backpacking buddies well. Most importantly, this is not simply a water filter but a chemical-free purifier. That means you don’t have to use the chemicals other require or the addition of iodine to make water safe to consume. This means it removes a lot of those difficult to… Full review

SteriPEN Classic

rated 5 of 5 stars Best device for the money. Had it for four years now and it's never failed me. Even when I dropped it and the battery cover cracked, it still worked. Great piece of kit, never go off into unsafe waters without one. I've had the Steripen Classic for four years now and it's never failed me.  Even when I dropped it and the battery cover cracked, it still worked. To boot, when I called SteriPEN for information on how to repair the cracked cover they simply shipped a replacement battery cover to me… Full review

MSR SweetWater Purifier System

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I have used the SweetWater for three years now. It has always done a great job. When an internal mechanism broke from years of use, MSR promptly replaced it—no questions asked. I got it used. When handed to me, I asked the guy how much life was left in it. He said he thought it was at the end of the line. I used it for two more years. It's finally starting to "pop the hose back" from the filter being at the end of the line. Effectiveness: Treats water well. Be mindful that it takes out particulate… Full review

SteriPEN Adventurer Opti

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Have utilized the SteriPEN Aventurer Opti now on several outings this summer instead of my pump water filter systems and found it to be very simple and effective. On previous trips (before the SteriPEN), after a rain, the rivers and streams would be full of silt and dirt. That fine silt clogged my pump filtration systems. I tried different pump systems. I replaced filters. I backwashed the units. I found that back washing the unit once for every liter of water, no matter what pump system I was using,… Full review

SteriPEN Adventurer Opti

rated 4 of 5 stars I have this and love it. I love it; it works well. But like any new gadget it does take a few times to get the hang of it. Granted the cost of the battery is a little pricey, but you should be able to use it a year on a set of batteries. So that's not really a big deal, not like I would ever use 6,000 gallons of water hiking in a year. It's a good packable size. I bought this because most methods of water purification is just awful tasting and the the thought of me drinking bleach water is just… Full review

MSR SweetWater Purifier System

rated 5 of 5 stars Great little pump. I've had mine must be almost 10 years or pretty close. Bought the system when they first came out, used in all four seasons, used it to get water from a streams, lakes, through the ice. Works really well. Replacement filter is a little pricey, and it doesn't pump the volume of the newer ones ,or as fast. But I just don't have the heart to replace it. It works so well and the Sweetwater purifier solution that comes with it makes the water taste like the water that comes out of… Full review
