Hyperlite Mountain Gear Porter

rated 5 of 5 stars Lightweight, super tough. The Hyperlite Mountain Gear Porter meets all my needs in a backpack. It is very light, the material and stitching are first rate. It handles winter loads well. The strength of the fabric was tested during a trip to the Ventana Wilderness where we spent two days scrambling through some nearly impassable brush. No holes in the fabric and after a quick wash it looked like new. A forty+ pound winter load (mid tarp tent, -20 degree bag, five days food and fuel) was easily swallowed… Full review

Cotopaxi Nepal 65

rated 3 of 5 stars The Cotopaxi Nepal 65L pack has a number of innovative features, and is appropriate for trips of a few days or longer. While it didn’t work well for my body type and the weight I carry, it’s worth a look due to its design and unique features. Introduction I feel a bit conflicted in writing about this pack. I really wanted to like it. It’s an interesting pack with some unique design features. Also, Cotopaxi commits to contributing part of the proceeds of each product sale to worthy causes. Full review

Osprey Ariel 55

rated 5 of 5 stars Great pack, super comfortable, rugged. I have used this pack since 2003 on the Long Trail for overnight hikes of 2-4 days, carrying 25-32 lbs. It will carry more but I try to limit the weight. Fit: This pack fits great. It is adjustable so many ways that despite layering on and off as I go. I can still feel comfortable with a pull or release on various straps. The women's shoulder harness is very well padded, but not bulky. Very comfortable, great range of motion for my arms with the pack on. Comfort:… Full review

GoLite Jam 50L

rated 0.5 of 5 stars Very uncomfortable and non-lasting pack. Not worth your money! My husband and I hiked the PCT this year and we bought some gear from GoLite (nice Chrome Dome, gloves, jackets) with the main piece being my Jam 50. I liked it because of the weight (it kept my base weight very low), but it turned out to NOT be worth it at all. Even though the guy in the Fort Collins store assured us that all the gear was top quality and would last, it turned out the gear was not made to even slightly last a thru-hike. Full review

Lowe Alpine Appalachian 60+15

rated 5 of 5 stars Got this used from work the other day and it will now be my primary pack. It is by far better then my North Face, and it was free. Great pack, feels sturdy, holds a ton, looks awsome. Lid pockets on both sides. Integrated tent compresion straps on bottom. Love this pack. Full review

Gregory Makalu Pro 70

rated 4.5 of 5 stars One of the best large capacity packs ever made! Load-carrying comfort is not sacrificed, as the tried and true Gregory suspension system is in place. Weight saving comes from stripping out unnecessary features and using Spectra nylon for the pack body. One of the best large capacity packs ever made! Gregory Jade 70

rated 4 of 5 stars I am a fairly small woman — 5'4"  — and the small pack fit me perfectly. I did have to play around with all the adjustments for a while to get it fit for me. I would recommend having someone help fit your pack if you are a novice. (Like I was) I LOVE how roomy this pack is and how easily it accommodates all the gear I carried. The Gregory Jade 70 is the first pack I purchased for backpacking. I was headed on a three-day trek through the Sawtooth Wilderness and really wanted to have my own pack… Full review

Osprey Atmos 65

rated 3 of 5 stars Nice and light, terrible side pockets, front stretch pocket is good, front zippered pockets are pointless. I find the hip straps and overall hip area to be uncomfortable. I've had this a year now and have had it out on four trips, a total of five nights/days. So not much. I generally like Osprey and knew this was a well-liked pack so I gave it a try. It's OK, but not great. The side pockets are horrible. They are clearly not designed for bottles because you have to struggle to get standard Nalgenes… Full review

Gregory Baltoro 65

rated 4 of 5 stars Great suspension, great size. Comfortable. Great pack. Have used this on a few weekend expeditions as well as a long distance thru hike. I would recommend it. It has a multitude of adjustments. It has held up very well without any obvious signs of wear. The capacity is large. This pack is too big to be in Trailspace weekend pack category. I had plenty of room for a two-month expedition (with weekly resupply). I found it comfortable, though if I could go back and buy it again, I would get the medium… Full review
