Hyperlite Mountain Gear 3400 Porter

rated 5 of 5 stars As the editor of an outdoor website covering the outdoor sports of Central Washington, I own a lot of packs, big and small. Of all of them, this is currently my favorite. This has become my go-to pack for gear-intensive day tripping (e.g., backcountry skiing, rock climbing) as well as for lightweight multi-day trips. It’s not the very lightest pack of its capacity out there (my pack weighs 2 pounds, 1 ounce) but is the lightest pack of its capacity that has reinforced sides and bottoms for contenting… Full review

Gregory Savant 58

rated 2.5 of 5 stars I so wanted this pack to work for me. Very intelligently designed and very well made. Even comes with a very nice rain cover and pouch. Easy to get to compartments conveniently located .... and the main bag can be opened via top or horse-shoe zipper on bottom. Nice. HOWEVER, Gregory screwed up with the shoulder straps. They have NO adjustments to size to fit your torso. One size fits all. I could never adjust the shoulder straps to bear any weight. Took it to the store and they tried and couldn’t… Full review

Mountainsmith Scream 55

rated 4 of 5 stars A well-built frameless weekender, the Scream 55 can be a year-round performer if the rest of your gear allows it. Keep your total weight under 30 pounds and head for the hills. Best For: Weekend warriors with lightweight gear still looking for that 90%-of-the-time backpack. Ultralighters that want a measure of waterproofness. Design The Scream 55 is a mid-size, frameless backpack constructed mostly of Robic, one of the newest, most promising fabrics to come along since the Dimension Polyant's X-Pac… Full review

Osprey Atmos 50

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I've used this pack for 2-4 night trips in the Smokies. 5 nights is pushing it, as this thing isn't huge, but it provides all of the space I need. If you're looking for a sturdy, lightweight pack that offers more support than an ultralight pack over a few days, it's hard to go wrong with this pack. I love this pack. It fits me well. I'm 5'8" and 140 pounds. The hip belts sit in the appropriate place and all of the straps fit me correctly, which can be difficult to manage with some men's packs since… Full review

REI Women's Flash 50 Pack

rated 3.5 of 5 stars Overall good, but the straps hurt! It's a good pack to start backpacking with. It's light and had different compartments on the outside and top of the backpack. The only bad part for me is the straps. They're very thin and don't have much padding.  Full review

Coleman Max 65

rated 5 of 5 stars Was apprehensive about buying a Coleman pack for multi-day excursions, but my concerns were quickly put to rest. This pack is—especially considering the low cost—awesome! It fits my average 5' 10" frame perfectly and is fully adjustable. The pack is well constructed and has stood up to five years of beatings. I have had a few of my "gearhead" friends roll their eyes but hey, I got what I needed at a price anyone can appreciate. Full review

Osprey Exos 58

rated 5 of 5 stars It's light, it has a lot of room, all the important features, great quality, and no real cons. I can't add much to what has already been written about this backpack. This is a great pack and if you're on the fence buy it. I'm reviewing it because it's been a few months since anyone else has, and it's one of the few pieces of gear I have that I am completely satisfied with.   In photo below it's filled to the brim with extra insulation. It's light so I'm not worried about compression. It's big enough… Full review

London Bridge Light Infantry Patrol Pack

rated 5 of 5 stars This bag is built like a tank! It is a pack I'll have forever. You really need to go to the website and read all about this bag because it does a 101 different things. It's a beast of a bag. Rugged wouldn't even be the word for this bag, bomb proof is what I'd call it. It has so many options that you'll forget all it can do and how modular it is. I even gotta remind myself of its capabilities. Full review

No Limits Fire Walker 50

rated 5 of 5 stars I had never heard of No Limits before, but I needed a new pack. Now I see No Limits everywhere. I have the No Limits Fire Walker. It is fantastic for a 2-day hike. Nothing more than that because it's 50 liters. I got one for my girlfriend too, and I was not sure how well she would manage, but she never once complained about her back hurting. You can thank the padded system they have in the pack and the very adjustable waist and chest straps. It was perfect for a beginner and it was great for me. Full review
