Hyperlite Mountain Gear 3400 Southwest

rated 5 of 5 stars Ultralight, tough, surprisingly comfortable and versatile pack. A real winner. I've always had pretty high-tech backpacks. My original internal frame backpack was an Osprey Zenith, loaded with bells and whistles. From that 7 lb behemoth which served me well, I eventually ended up with an Osprey Aether (the original model), which at about 4 lbs, served me well on a thru-hike of the JMT. I thought I was doing pretty well getting my pack weight down to about 34 lbs for a six-day trip. I realized there… Full review

Osprey Aether 60

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This is a comfortable, fully adjustable, reasonable weight pack for light backpacking. 60L is a fairly tight fit, but enough room if you pack wisely. Not much to complain about with this pack. I use it for overnight hikes and winter snowshoe trips to shelters. It holds just enough gear without anything outside. And if pressed I'm sure I could pack more. It's extremely comfortable and I often forget I'm wearing it. I've never used the removable top as a waist belt and feel it's a somewhat useless… Full review

Osprey Aura AG 65

rated 5 of 5 stars Fits as if it were made for me! Comfortable and able to carry 40 pounds easily. Lots of pockets and securing straps. Removable lid. I bought this pack for this season and I am in love with it already. It fits like a glove to my torso. It is comfortable with 37-42 pounds, which will be my average weight on the trail with food. I like all the pockets and the deep side pockets fit my 32 oz Nalgene bottle perfectly. I like having hip belt pockets for easy to reach snacks and gear. I got a deal on this… Full review

ALPS Mountaineering Sector 4200

rated 2.5 of 5 stars Well fitting, value conscious pack that is short on some details. This was my first high volume backpack since my military days 15 years ago. Purchased the ALPS Mountaineering Sector 4200 online from REI because of the price and in spite of some lacking features, notably pockets on the hip belt and shoulder straps. It is a comfortable pack at heavy weights. The load lifters and adjustable straps make for an easy carry whatever your pack weight. The hip belt in particular is solid and comfortable. Full review

Deuter ACT Lite 65+10

rated 5 of 5 stars Solid, no-frills pack that's relatively light and very comfortable. Good for weekend to week-long trips. This pack is comfortable and spacious, easily fitting everything I need for backpacking up to a 4-day trip. I like the large separate sleeping bag compartment, how it is super comfortable easily handling a 30-40lb load. It's also really durable, having been through a bunch of backpacking trips and as checked baggage on plane trips over 4 years. All it needs is an extra hip pocket. Otherwise it… Full review

Teton Sports Mountain Adventurer 4000

rated 3.5 of 5 stars I'm a beginner, just starting to get into hiking. So far I am very happy with my Teton backpack. The price was right for a first time hiker and the fit was perfect for someone just getting started with a new hobby. I was able to fit in a weeks' worth of gear with no problems and the straps and padding were comfy. No back problems, chaffing or anything. Can't beat the price!  Full review

Osprey Exos 58

rated 5 of 5 stars Overall, the best pack I've ever owned. Light and comfortable. I just used my Exos 58 on the Lake Ozette triangle trail in the Olympic National Park and it performed beautifully. I'm 6'4" and 285, so obviously I used the Large version and it adjusted out to fit just fine. I had about 35 pounds of gear and the suspension system was still comfortable. Like some of the others, I wish it had a sleeping bag compartment, but hey, it's certainly not the first top loader I've owned. Overall, the best pack… Full review

High Sierra Titan 65

rated 4 of 5 stars This backpack is spacious, durable, sturdy, and is comfortable to carry. Carrying this backpack while hiking is easier to carry than others. This backpack fits well for me (a woman) and is super comfortable. The volume is a little smaller than advertised, equipment is secure, ride is stable, adjusts fairly well to different loads, features of backpacks work as expected, and it is well made. I have used this backpack for about 10 months. Full review

Osprey Exos 58

rated 4.5 of 5 stars The perfect balance for ultralight backpackers. While you can get a lighter UL pack, you can't do it without shedding features packed into this beauty. The Exos 58 has a great frame, suspension, load lifters, brain, exterior mesh pockets, shoulder strap pockets, and hip belt pockets. The "Airspeed(tm)" frame keeps the pack a couple inches off your back. It it so effective at letting the air cool your back, I once thought my hydration bladder was leaking, but it was just the chill of the wind across… Full review
