ULA Equipment Circuit

rated 5 of 5 stars This is a well-made pack that rides very comfortably for the whole day. At 2 lbs empty, it is in the "ultralight" class, and it is well suited to 2-4 night outings. The pack and suspension system can handle up to 30 lbs. I bought my ULA Circuit new, direct from the company, and have used it for two seasons now. I have certainly logged enough miles to know this pack. It is advertised to carry up to 30 pounds comfortably, and I would say that is fairly accurate. Anything over 30, I go to another pack… Full review

REI Traverse 65

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This backpack has amazing comfort and adjustability, with a price that cannot be beat. I appreciate the level of organization that is capable with this pack, but wish that some of the pockets were slightly bigger. I have put in about a hundred miles in with this pack through some pretty tough terrain, and I have never had a backpack with the kind of comfort and support that this pack offers. I have mild back pain and most backpacks make me miserable within a couple days of hiking, but this backpack… Full review

Gregory Stout 65

rated 5 of 5 stars Extremely comfortable and well built backpack. Flew several times with this bag as checked luggage and went on many several day hiking trips ranging from three to 10 days each and this bag has held up beautifully and still looks brand new. This is a great pack for multiple day hikes and backpacking trips through Europe. This backpack is highly adjustable and able to fit people of many sizes. I am relatively short (5' 6") and I was able to adjust the height of this pack so that it fit me perfectly. Full review

Osprey Ace 50

rated 5 of 5 stars From the minute she put it on, we knew it was the right bag for our 12-year-old. Our upcoming through hike will be so much easier with her packing her own extras! We looked at a number of other options, price not a factor. This won by far.  Full review

Osprey Aether 70

rated 5 of 5 stars Comfortable, well designed pack. Purchased (2013) for long weekend trips. I prefer to pack lots of creature comforts, and this pack allows me to bring everything I want and need for 2-3 night trips.   The suspension is what sold me. Even heavily weighed down, it is comfortable and fits my hips/shoulders/back really well. I would advise trying on before purchase, as you'll want the size option that best fits your torso.   Lots of compartments. The pocket for the water reservoir is easy to access,… Full review

REI Women's Flash 65

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This pack is excellent for longer multi-day backpacking trips. It's half the price of the major ultralight bags, but at only 3 pounds it's not that much heavier. This pack has been with me through thick and thin. Literally. My first backpacking trip was on a trail (the BRT) that had been pistol whipped by winter storms. Our group was literally the only group to thru-hike the trail that year. The fact that my pack walked off that trail without so much as a snag convinced me that we were BFF's. Besides… Full review

Deuter ACT Lite 65+10

rated 5 of 5 stars I grew up with the old aluminum frame shoulder harness packs (virtually no hip support) hiking up and down the Presidential range in New Hampshire's White Mountains. This pack (mine is light blue -- slightly older) is wonderful for its capacity to make relatively light hiking a reality. My pack, with a week's worth of food and gear (with bear canister) is about 35-40# at start, and everything fits PERFECTLY. I have used it on a couple of dozen significant hikes and there is not a sign of significant… Full review

The North Face Men's Banchee 50

rated 5 of 5 stars Love this backpack! As an ultralight enthusiast I use it for up to one-week trips without any problems. This backpack is the best. Quality, stability, size, comfort... everything is in top category. And still I want to outline some features why it is better then other backpacks Super Features: Front pockets—Majority of backpacks have several pockets to organize staff. These pockets are usually top one, two side pockets on hip belt, and two pockets on sides for water, but everyone will agree that… Full review

Six Moon Designs Fusion 65

rated 3 of 5 stars Based on the durable materials and construction, I am guessing the primary intent for this design is to carry moderate to heavier loads (loads of 40-50 pounds). In 2015, the new Fusion 65 (67 liter) had two options for shoulder straps. One short and one even shorter (the s-curve). This is a durable pack designed to last for years of trail fun. "Fusion Packs are designed to carry whatever gear you need comfortably." is the motto for this pack according to Six Moons Designs. You can go to sixmoonsdesigns.com… Full review
