Recent Weekend Pack (3,000 - 4,499 cu in) Reviews

Macpac Cascade 65

rated 1.5 of 5 stars Disappointing necessity. Thought we would buy a well known quality pack to do the Milford and Kepler tracks back to back. Selling point was the fact they were supposedly waterproof. That means the pack is slightly heavier to start with, but is then not affected by rain. Bad mistake. Packs suck water like a wet and dry vacuum. Sleeping bags and clothing got wet. Packs became heavier. Between tramps had to purchase a pack cover each (pain in the arse) and some dry bags. My wife's fitted OK, but my… Full review

Osprey Aether 70

rated 5 of 5 stars Excellent overall backpack. This pack has come with me on hundreds of miles of backpacking adventures, and it has always proved itself to be a high-quality, comfortable, and well-thought-out pack. I think I bought my Aether 70 in 2010, and since then it has seen a lot of miles. It's come on frequent long and short backpacking trips, kayaking and canoe trips, long bus rides, and also a year-long backpacking trip throughout South America. And with everything it's been through, I really can not say… Full review

Osprey Atmos AG 65

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This is a great backpack for multi-day hikes and winter trips. It supports all the gear I need and is very ergonomic with the straps, the Anti-Gravity style and hip-support. It has a good design overall and the only flaw I have noticed is that it is a bit squeaky. I can recommend this for backpackers wanting to be comfortable while hiking and that need to carry equipment. Fit: I find it very well fitting for my semi-tall torso, thin waist, and broad shoulders. It's also well-adjustable and also… Full review

Granite Gear Blaze AC 60

rated 5 of 5 stars Lightweight roomy pack for weekend to weeklong use. Comfortable. Simple design. I bought this in my quest to reduce overall pack weight. In the last year, it has proven tough, comfortable, and once I changed my packing procedure to fit this style, it has proven very trail-worthy. I have two packs, this one and a larger Deuter that I've used for about 7 years. I increasingly reach for the Blaze these days. Unlike most of the backpacks I have owned, this style has no separate bottom compartment, or… Full review

Gregory Baltoro 65

rated 5 of 5 stars I’ve crossed around 1,000 miles over the past six months with this pack, carrying an average weight of 36 pounds. I could never imagine a backpack can be so comfortable and make the weight just disappear. I’ve crossed around 1000 miles the past 6 months with this pack, carrying an average weight of 36 pounds, I could never imagine a backpack can be so comfortable and make the weight just disappear. This is the 2016 model. Suspension: Superb. I have no idea how they made it, but this pack just… Full review

Osprey Exos 58

rated 4 of 5 stars Looking for light pack ? This will be a superb choice with its 1.1kg weight. You can pack more stuff in it than in a no-frame pack, but still have to stay under 15kg if needed ultimate comfort. Sizing is crucial, so try it before buying it. I tried and tested the pack in many multi-day hikes, but the major outing was again the GR20 last summer. Since then I have been using the pack nearly every second weekend for full day hikes. I don't need that much on gear, in addition I am a trail runner so… Full review

Osprey Aura 65

rated 5 of 5 stars Awesome pack!! I have no experience wearing a pack so bought this based on reviews, and it certainly lived up to its name. It comes with different sized harnesses, so I had mine fitted at the store to ensure the correct fit. I wore the pack for an introductory mountaineering trip, so had to carry a lot of gear a reasonable distance. I loved all of the compartments, especially provision for ice tools, sleeping pad and mat, and that the compartment for sleeping bag was accessible from the bottom of… Full review

Osprey Volt 60

rated 4.5 of 5 stars This is my choice of backpack for all-season camping. Winter, fall, summer, or spring, this bag will do it all. Also having Osprey's amazing warranty with the bag truly gives it its awesome rating. I couldn't think of any cons, so I got really picky. This backpack is very very good. The size is very accurate, the fit is amazing, and it is adjustable to fit any body type. Lots of pockets including: hip pockets, internal sleeping bag compartment, mesh pocket for small goods, and it also has a large… Full review

Osprey Aether 70

rated 5 of 5 stars Great backpack. Handled load great, added bear proof container and tent on outside of pack and it remained very stable. We did a 12-mile hike for first trip with pack and the hip belt was fantastic. I was told you should get the belt formed before hiking, but it performed great. I had plenty of room for a two-day hike / bear canister and / large sleeping bag and food for group of four. Full review
