Summary

A zippo lighter can be refueled. As opposed to a disposable Bic lighter, this lighter is more durable and therefore more reliable.

Pros

  • Durable
  • Refillable
  • Reliable

Cons

  • Heavier

If you use an alcohol stove, a Zippo lighter is a reliable fire starter. Even if it is out of fuel, the spark from the striker can ignite the alcohol or you can use lighter fluid as your fuel. This way you can refill the lighter with the fuel you are carrying.

More importantly, this lighter is not going to get broken in your pack or in your pocket when it gets crushed up against a rock during a fall. This is a durable reliable fire starter.
