One Percent for the Planet Thrives
One Percent for the Planet (1% FTP), a global network of
environmentally responsible businesses and the non-profit groups they
support, announces continued growth, an online auction and key
partnerships slated for the 2007 Holiday season.
“We’ve been
averaging at least one new member a day, which brings the total to
almost 800 member-companies in 24 countries, and a network that has
funneled over $30M into the hands of environmental non-profit groups to
date,” comments Strick Walker from 1% FTP. “We will debut an online
auction beginning November 12th, which will be a dynamic forum where
consumers can bid on member-donated products, ranging from a signed
guitar from Jack Johnson, a bicycle from New Belgium Brewing Company,
to a private day of surfing with Yvon Chouinard and much more.” To

Walker
continues, “this fall, with cooperation from key media partners such as
Outside, Spin, Plenty, Surfing, Backcountry and Huck, we will launch a
national advertising campaign and will announce a new relationship with
Sony and their Eco Edition VAIO laptops.”
Inspired by nature,
the Eco Edition VAIO series will utilize a slim design to minimize
resources, easy-to-recycle materials for the product and packaging,
RoHS compliant components and incentives for free recycling of other
Sony branded products. To celebrate, Sony will donate one percent of
the price of each Eco Edition notebook purchased to non-profit
organizations working to preserve the environment via 1% For the Planet.
Walker
continues, “We are thrilled by the support we have gained as it proves
the environmental ethic is trickling upward to larger corporate
entities. The shared belief that you can do well as a business by doing
the right thing with respect to the environment is clearly apparent.
There’s a paradigm shift happening here and it’s happening organically.”
