I'm a traditionalist in some respects and like long-lasting, well-designed gear. I would rather pay more for good design and construction. I dislike waste and the "disposal" ethic of some gear. For example, footwear. I'd rather buy a good pair of boots, keep them for 10 or more years, and resole them when necessary. (The other school of thought is buy a cheap boot and replace every few years. This seems wasteful to me, and I bet it's more expensive in the long run.)
