The Columbia Bora Bora Booney Hat
The Columbia Bora Bora Booney Hat is a lightweight sun hat made of nylon. It has a mesh panel running along much of the diameter of the crown for ventilation. It has a wide brim that offers excellent protection from the sun. It appears well made, with no loose threads and no obvious weaknesses in its construction.
The brim does not have a stiffener wire, which is both good and bad. It is good because it means the hat can be folded and packed away readily. It is bad because the brim can flap in a strong wind and sag if the hat gets wet. For me, the advantage of packability wins out. I appreciate being able to stuff the hat in a bag without worrying that I might end up with a permanently bent brim. So far I have worn the hat in moderate winds and the brim has given me no trouble.

Underside view
The hat has a simple adjustable retaining strap. The brim is dark-coloured on the underside. This is often touted as an advantage for hats. Presumably it avoids glare from light that gets reflected up from the ground when the sun is high in the sky.

The drawcord and toggle on the back of the crown
Probably the main drawback of this hat is the fact that it is one size. It is made to fit larger heads. It has a drawcord with a toggle at the back of the crown that you can use to adjust the fit, but I can't imagine that this offers much leeway for adjustment because the inner diameter of the brim is fixed. However this is not a problem for me because my head circumference is 23.5 inches (60 cm), which is on the large side. The hat fits me comfortably with only minimal adjustment.

I'm not sure what this band on the side of the crown is for
All in all I'm happy with this hat. It is comfortable, cool and should last a long time. At just €30 it is excellent value.
