If, like me, you sweat a lot, the Deuter air comfort packs (there are several sizes) are a good buy. They are slightly heavier than others for the same sizing but their stretched frame back really keeps air between your back and the pack. Well made (German) and well thought out my little 22 litre has been faithful on day trips in the Spanish Pyrenees for 3 years now. As it holds close to the body despite the space for airflow it's also good for mountain-biking as well.
The latest versions have more waist padding and a waterproof cover built in.
