Garmin Colorado 400c

Definitely the best GPS device I have owned out of several over the years. I am a sea kayaker, so device comes with me every time I paddle (several times a week year around).
Despite it being advertised as waterproof, it is seriously corroding; even inside the supposedly watertight battery compartment. I plan to contact Garmin about this, but clearly the outside metal components and, to a lesser extent, the watertightness of the battery compartment, are less than ideal for a device designed to be used around saltwater.
I should mention that it is rinsed after every use, but this is insufficient to preclude significant corrosion.
