Adidas Men's Terrex Free Hiker

A super comfortable hiking shoe, which blurs the lines between a trail runner and a hiking boot. As the summer hiking season approached, it became clear that it was time to buy a new pair of hiking shoes. This process is always made more difficult by the multitude of foot problems I have: long toes, wide forefoot (bunions), severe over-pronater, and size 14. So I started researching what was new on the market, to get started in the process. I read a review in Backpacker magazine for the Adidas Terrex… Full review

Inov-8 Men's Roclite G 345 GTX

The Inov-8 Roclite G 345 GTX is a very high quality mid-ankle boot that offers superb traction, while still being very lightweight. Inov-8 classifies this product as a hiking and running boot that provides comfort and traction over trail protection. Graphene rubber technology takes this footwear to a new level, making it ideal for unstable and slippery terrain during moderate mileage days. Inov-8 released the Roclite G 345 GTX to meet the needs of the "fast & light" hiker or trail runner looking… Full review

Keen Men's Durand Waterproof Mid

Durable, comfortable, and lightweight. Great for wide flat feet. Another writer says they are not for serious hiking, but rather for looking like an outdoorsy person. I don't know what this writer considers real hiking, but this is what I do in  them. I never see a trail where I go cause I'm a land surveyor.  I am in swamps, hills, creeks going up, down, through thick underbrush, rocks, sand, and any other conditions you can imagine. These boots do it all. I'm on my third pair and ready for a… Full review

Meindl Burma Pro GTX

The Burma Pro GTX is a men's mid-mountain walking boot designed by Meindl. It's a long distance hiking boot capable of basic mountaineering routes in summer and winter conditions. Having described these as one of my favourite bits of kit in my Reviewer of the Month article I thought I had better do them justice with a review. Germans certainly know how to make boots  (I also owned pair of HanWag mountaineering boots and they saved a trip to the Alps). I have walked for hundreds of miles in these… Full review

Salomon Men's X Ultra Mid 3 Aero

The Salomon X Ultra Mid 3 Aero's are my "tweeners." They perfectly fill the gap between my low-top Salomon X Ultra 3 and my Salomon Quest 4D 3 GTX hiking/backpacking footwear. Featherlight, cushiony comfort, wraparound support and Gecko-like grip make these my favorite for hiking and backpacking when pack weights are 35 lbs. or less.                                             Salomon X Ultra Mid 3 Aero   I should add the disclaimer that I own a vast number of hiking shoes… Full review

Lowa Men's Renegade GTX Mid

Not what they used to be. Unfortunately within two or three years, three pairs of Renegade Lowa GTX (two Mids and one Lo), have had their Vibram soles detach and disintegrate long before anything else on the shoe/boot showed any signs of wear. The soles had wonderful tread left, the stitching was excellent, and the interior showed no signs of rubbing-type wear. For the relatively high price one pays for Lowas and the relatively light use over two or three years this brand is no longer worth it. Full review

Danner Women's Pronghorn 8"

Used these for two elk hunts and numerous deer hunts. Put on a lot of miles! Would recommend for support and comfort. Tough made. Fairly good in wet conditions. Full review

Lowa Camino GTX

I’ve found the Lowa Camino GTX to be sturdy, comfortable boots good for use on the toughest terrain. The Flex lacing system allows you to tailor the fit however you want it. Excellent support is provided by a firm midsole and thick leather uppers. The Vibram AppTrail sole gives excellent traction on most surfaces. Over Labor Day weekend of 2017 I went to the closest REI to replace my Asolo Fugitive GTX that had become too worn out for use in rough terrain. I decided I might as well try on some… Full review

Keen Men's Gypsum II Waterproof Mid

I will not recommend it for hiking if you dislike having wet feet at the end of the day. These boots are looking good, but totally unsuitable for traveling or hiking, not best choice for wearing everyday way. The biggest disadvantage is ability to breathe. They just don't breathe at all. I tried my brand new boots three days ago and after three hours of waking in park my legs were wet, not little bit but socks full of water and boot's inner was also wet inside. Right now it is 4-7 celsious degree,… Full review
