Hillary 3 Person Dome Tent

rated 2.5 of 5 stars

My girlfriend and I have used this tent for the past 4+ years and we love it. We don't use the rain fly because we both love to see the stars and feel the wind. Besides, it has many exposed windows and it seems to help us relax and enjoy our time in the tent together. If there is a chance of rain, or we start to get a cloud burst, we scramble out of our bags and put up a huge 20x12 tarp and secure it with lots of rope and bungees. A late addition to that scheme is a 8' pine log retrieved from the river. Positioned about 6' in front of the entry door, it acts to pitch everything in the right way. As well, it makes a great entry to our little hideaway in the mountains. We love the tent and it is easy to use.

Rained the first time I used it. Tent leaked like a sieve. Had to close the windows because the fly just barely covered the windows and didn't block the rain. Windows opened from the bottom so rain wasn't blocked at all. No fresh air could get into the tent. If you want a cheap tent get a mid-range like Coleman or Eureka. It's just a few dollars more and they're great. I took the Hillary back at the end of the weekend and got my money back. There's a warning label sewn into the tent that says not to use it with all the windows closed. But you have to close all the windows in the rain. Hah!
