Leki Trail Antishock

rated 4.5 of 5 stars
photo: Leki Trail Antishock antishock trekking pole

A light, sturdy, rock-solid pole that carries nicely and performs ably.

Pros

  • Light aluminum poles
  • Height adjustment is rock solid
  • Grips, straps, weight all come together for comfortable use

Cons

  • No lockout for antishock
  • No significant non-slip on grips
  • No caps for hard-surface use — must be sourced separately

I won these in a Trailspace contest giveaway.

The Leki Trail (AS) has proven to be a bit more than I expected, I'll be honest with you.

They're solid, light as a breeze, adjust fast and painlessly, and they're just what the doctor ordered.

The straps are functional and firm, don't slip through the buckles and provide nice support. while they're not super-cushy, neoprene padded, or any of that, they're sturdy and built to last.

The tips bite well and deeply on dirt, gravel, and the like. the poles, as a package, don't come with hard-surface tip covers though, so you'll have to source your own. a minor inconvenience at best.

The locking system is beyond rock solid. firm and positive, locks on the first try, and holds all day. the length adjustment is a breeze as well, with heights marked on both extension tubes.

The anti-shock is my only grumble, and that is only because there's no lockout that i've been able to find. that's no biggie, my other trekking poles(with lockout) are constantly slipping from locked to anti-shock. the actual performance of the antishock is really nice. no bounce, no extra play, springy but firm.

The poles have worked really well, and have made themselves a part of my permanent kit.

While I received these as a review giveaway prize, they are certainly a set of poles I'd gladly pay full price for.

Excellent product, light and strong.

Pros

  • Light
  • Sturdy
  • Comfortable
  • Affordable

Cons

  • None

In my research I ran across the other review on this page. Read what he wrote and take it to heart. These are great poles at a great price.

While I've only had them for a month they've seen rock, dirt, rain and snow and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. While the grips are composite they feel very comfortable in my hands although I wish they had a touch more thickness. But I also have larger hands so this probably won't be an issue for most.

The straps, while not padded, are also comfortable and make my hands feel like they are part of the pole. And while very light they feel absolutely rock solid. Great bite in these too and zero slippage from the locking mechanism. I'm also pretty confident these are going to have some longevity as the quality is really apparent.

Keep an eye out on Sierra Trading Post if you want to grab the sweetest deal. You won't be disappointed.
