Lowe Alpine MFS Tech II Jacket

rated 3.0 of 5 stars

The MFS Tech II Jacket has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best waterproof jackets for 2024.

Had this shell for about a year, most breathable waterproof fabric I've had. Just as durable as 3-ply GTX (maybe more, cause coatings don't delaminate) Not very abrasion resistant on the outside (the new verson has new quad thingy fabric, ought to be better), quite waterproof, very light. Hood was alright, had some problems with my field of vision, and there's no way to store it in the collar (I prefer to wear rainhats). ventilation is pretty good, there're vent in the chest and pits.

No hip pockets, which i suppose should be great since I'm a backpacker, but on a few chilly mornings I've missed having a place to put my hands. no insulation value at all, and i still haven't figured out what the little velcro slot at the very bottom (hem) is for (maybe to turn inside out?) dollar for dollar, this might be the best lightweight waterproof/breathable shell.
