The Altitude has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best backpacking boots for 2024.

Good, comforable boot. Unforuntately fell apart after two week-long backpacking trips. Luckily was still under warranty. I have had two pairs of Merrells now and the soles have come unglued on both of them. Very comfortable but don't waste your money

Materials: leather
Use: rough trail with heavy pack
Break-in Period: brief
Price Paid: $199

Indestructiblle Vibram Soles.....Too bad they come off the boot. After 250 miles the soles had to be cemented back on and the fit always hurt high up on my feet.

Materials: Leather
Use: Rough trail w/heavy pack
Break-in Period: 50 miles
Weight: 4 lbs +
Price Paid: $199

Using the superstrut construction gives this boot tremendous ankle support. A bit on the heavy side, but still very comfortable. Like the Grand Traverse this boot is GREAT!!!

Materials: Leather
Use: Rough Trail w/heavy pack
Break-in Period: 1 week casual wear
Weight: ~4lbs
Price Paid: $140

This is a sturdy and very comfortable boot. The factory does the waterproofing which was a nice surprise.

Materials: Leather
Use: rough trail w/heavy pack
Break-in Period: comfortable immediately
Weight: 4 lbs. 5 oz.
Price Paid: $200
