Oboz Bridger 7" Insulated Waterproof

rated 5.0 of 5 stars
photo: Oboz Bridger 7" Insulated Waterproof winter boot

Very comfortable, well-insulated, and water resistant. Wore these on several mountain hikes in Tromso, Norway, without any breaking-in period. No blisters.

Pros

  • Well insulated
  • Water resistant (not sure about waterproof)
  • Comfortable with no breaking-in period for mountain hiking
  • Look amazing

Cons

  • Chunkier and heavier than leather boots

Fit: I have size 36.5 feet with large toes and narrow heels, which usually blister with any pair of new shoes. I bought these in size 37.5, shoe width B, and they fit my feet perfectly (with heavy woolen socks and a layer of thin socks). So maybe get a size or half bigger.

Comfort: I wore these on several 300m-600m high/4km-10km long mountain hikes in Tromso, Norway, during winter (November) without any breaking-in period. Feet were blister-free at the end of the trip.

Support: The inside sole has well defined arch support, which is great for me as my feet have high arches.

Water Resistance: Insides of the shoe were dry the whole trip, even though we stepped into several areas of slushy swamps.

Traction: I wore these on some steep inclines with ice and snow, and the soles were grippy enough to not slip. I've also walked on black ice in Finland with them, and haven't slipped yet.

Temp Control: They're definitely warm. I've worn them on three-hour long mountain hikes in winter with two layers of socks (woolen and a thin layer) and my feet were comfortable. My toes are usually frozen at the end of a winter hike, but these boots really kept my toes warm. I've also worn them in the park without much movement (Helsinki, Finland) with only a thin layer of socks for an hour outdoors, and my toes were fine. I'd say these are really well-insulated shoes.

Ease of Use: These boots lace and unlace easily.

Features: Seems to be dirt-proof! I bought the brown colored boots, though they look more grey in the photos and in real life. I soaked them in mud several times, the shoes looked clean and unsoiled at the end of the day.

Construction & Durability: I've only had them for two months, so I can't really speak to its long term durability. For what it's worth, I wear them pretty often during the past two months, and they still look brand new.

Conditions: I've used them in the mountains in Norway, and the forests and parks in Finland. I use them pretty much several times a week for hiking and walking for the past two months. They've held up really well so far, and survived a lot kicking and and stomping on rocks and trees.

Background

I've had these boots for only two months, and used them extensively in the mountains in Norway, and the forests and parks in Finland. I use them pretty much several times a week for hiking and walking for the past two months, in mud, slush, on black ice, and through heavy rain and snow.

They've held up really well so far, and survived a lot of kicking and and stomping on rocks and trees. I've owned several other pairs of boots, and the Oboz boots are pretty solid.
