An awesome alternative to tennis shoes, great light hiker for dry climates. Unfortunately hard to find because they are, I believe, discontinued.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Super comfortable
  • Alternative to athletic shoes
  • Durable Vibram sole
  • True to size

Cons

  • Not a waterproof boot

Bought these two years ago on clearance. Not waterproof so I sprayed them with SOF which has done a good job protecting them. I've used them for hiking on trails when dry and as a general out and about shoe. They have even seen snow dozens of times when it wasn't sloppy conditions.

My wife tells me to keep them nice because she likes how they look when I'm dressed and we are out casually dressed. Even when a bit dirty they have cleaned up easily. A veggie brush and water in the sink and a suede brush has them presentable enough for the wife to be happy. For muddy hiking and wet conditions I use my Alico or Hi-Tec boots.

The Lytos boot can't be compared to many other shoes for comfort. I find them better than my Adidas Stan Smiths or K-Swiss classics and as light and comfy as my trail runners. I wore them for a cancer charity walk in the spring and they were the perfect choice. If you can find a pair and they fit buy them.

If you aren't familiar with Lytos it's part of Mondeox, the Italian company that makes boot and also works with Zamberlan, Hi-Tec, Tecnica, Garmont and others. These were made in the Romanian factory which turns out other hiking boots for many brands. These look much like the Asolo boots also made in that region. The quality is excellent.

I figure I've walked  hundreds of miles in them with the Vibram sole showing minimal wear unlike a couple of brand names I wore through in the year before. I happened upon these at Sierra Trading Post for under $30 and they normally sold for about $120.

Background

I have feet and I've owned hunting, hiking, and work boots all the way back to the '60s.
