Best P-38 for keychain, carabiner, or pocket due to blade lock. If packed tight in a container, blade lock is unnecessary.
- Blade lock so won't cut pants
- Rounded corner
- Blade lock can be annoying if used wrong
The most common P-38 can openers have about a 50% defect rate. The corner by the hole isn't rounded enough and it digs into your hand. You can easily see this in photos that show a bunch of them together.
Another manufacturer leaves a pointy piece of metal by the hole in EVERY P-38 I checked (many) and opening the blade the first time by hand is pretty much impossible. Major quality control problems. The ones with the blade lock don't have these problems. Hopefully there won't be knockoffs that reintroduce those problems.
If you look at the pictures on Amazon you'll see how to position the blade lock so it doesn't get in the way when opening a can. Otherwise you could accidentally bend it (but it could be bent back) or it could get in the way.
