Ozark Trail Screen House

rated 1.5 of 5 stars

The Screen House has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best tents and shelters for 2024.

Just a comment because I had to.

Pros

  • Good coverage
  • Easy setup

Cons

  • Could use more durable materials for longer life.

Got one of these out of a storage unit at auction. Obviously used, but in good shape. Without instructions, it took me about 30 minutes to put it together and get it erected, by myself. Just had to comment after reading these old reviews of folks who couldn't seem to set it up without either A. Five people to help, or B. Breaking something.

After setting it up, it seems to me folks just don't know how to exercise a little common sense and patience. The overall construction is about what you expect for the price. In other words, decently made and certainly good enough for the occasional camping or outdoor excursion, but not something the avid outdoors person would want to use on a regular basis.

The plastic corners are not worth putting the room up. But I did find this to get parts from California.

Had screen house for less then two weeks, got a little rain and all four corners broke on the frame, waited on phone for 48 minutes befor I was helped and then was told it would be 4-6 weeks before I can recieve new parts that would have cost me $12. This is totaly wrong that a company doesn't keep parts in stock. I was told to try and return it to the place I purchased it or wait the 4-6 weeks. Well I'm a camper and I intend to use this weekly.

I will return it to the place of purchase for a full refund and I'll purchase another brand and I will let all my camping friends and every campground I go to about ur crappy products and service.

The screen tent came with missing and broken parts. I contacted customer service. Their solution was for me to pay for replacements out of pocket. No apology, no offer for a resolution. The product is garbage and the customer service is worse.

Pros

  • I can't tell you what the pros are. I can't even begin to put it up because pieces are missing or broken and no one seems to want to make things right.

Cons

  • The quality of the rods must be terrible for them to break so easily in shipping. The customer service is non-existent.

Broken pieces. Missing pieces. Absolutely no offer to resolve the issue. Absolutely no apology for the poor quality of the product.

Background

I have purchased outdoor sporting goods from Coleman and they not only have much better products, but they stand behind what they sell.

Source: received it as a personal gift

We bought this screen tent about 2 years ago and just took it out of the box to put it up. I hate to say it but this thing is a piece of JUNK. I could not even get the top frame together with out it either bending the poles or coming apart.

I have tried for about one and a half hours to get it up and it is still on the ground. WHAT A PIECE OF ENGINEERING WORK> Whoever designed this thing should be fired and have to pay back the money that it cost.

I can tell you I will never by anything with this name on it, that is if they are still open.

Design: JUNK
Ease of Setup: you must be kidding

This tent is only $47 at Walmart, however that is not the point. The hubs on the tent and the construction of the design are worthless. Leave it up for an evening ... no problem... a light misting rain and it's all over. The hubs break and the legpoles bend beyond repair.

If that isn't bad enough call the manufacturer, Northpole USA to reorder parts and the parts will not be stocked for 60-90 days. If you would like to discuss this absurdity with the consumer services manager of the manufacturer, please call Northpole at 1-800-366-1599. They will be happy to help you and listen to your problems and suggestions for improvement.

Design: screenhouse

This product from the list of stuff that I wish I never had bought it would in the top two. Setting up the screenhouse you need an army of people to hold the frame in place to put the screen over. Then the hooks don't even reach the holes at the bottom of the poles. Then if you can manage to get that far, you have to run like crazy to get it tied down before if falls over. Bottom of screen doesn't even tough the ground.

So if you see this screen in the store just keep walking, don't spend your money on it.

The screen is great for nice weather. It gives great shade and it keeps flies out. We used it to put it over a little swimming pool for our children and it works great. We do get a lot of random rains during the summer so one of the 3-way gables broke (part of the corners of the frame) with the weight of the water that accumulated on one side. I called to get a replacement and the customer service person I talked to was awesome! She guided me through until I was able to find the correct serial number for the part and sent it to me right away.

Design: polyester, 10 x 14 ft
Ease of Setup: it has colored coded dots to set up. It is quite easy

I purchased Model #WT98010R and I've had it for 2 years and have put it up probably 6 times.  This summer I had it up in the backyard after a birthday party for several days and one of the poles broke during a bad storm while I was at work.

I contacted Wal-Mart (1-800-WALMART) to see where I could get a replacement pole for the tent. They are idiots and seemed like they didn't want to help me by supplying me with the manufacturer's phone number.

After being on hold for 10 minutes, the representative finally gave me a number and it was an incorrect number! Arrrrggggg!!!

Price Paid: $69

Received this as a gift...[I thought those people liked me!]

Poorly constructed.

Made in Cambodia.

I would like to spend 5 minutes with the designer of this POS, in a locked room...just me and him and a 2x4.

Difficult at best to set up without instructions.

Reviewer Barbara is fortunate that her instructions are only faded, mine are in Spanish (Really!).

If this is indicative of the 'quality' of Ozark Trail products, steer clear!

Is there a Ralph Nader of camping equipment?

Save your money, buy something...anything else!!!

Design: Crappy
Ease of Setup: there is no "Ease of Setup" !
Price Paid: A gift

It seems like I am the second person to review this product, and the second one to give it a 1 Star rating. The problem is identical..... goes together well, but as soon as we got a little shower.... BOOM... total collapse, hubs (2) shattered and two sets of poles completely destroyed. Not sure if I should order replacement parts or not, maybe I should just consider this a waste of money, and cut my losses while I can. Overall, very dissapointed.

Price Paid: $44.73 + tax

I purchased this Screen House two years ago. It goes up OK, poles have color coded stickers on them. It has held up well for me. Been through several severe storms while camping with no issues. Overall I am pleased with it. Keeps sun and bugs at bay which was my main reason for buying it. Seems harder to take down than to put up. The way the poles clip into hubs is a little hard to get apart.

Ease of Setup: 3
Weight: about 15 pounds

Bought this at Walmart a couple of years ago. Never got it out, went to use it yesterday and the kit for set up is totally wrong.

Of course walmart will not honor it having been purchased so long ago. What a piece of worthless Chinese dung. Will know better next time. They lost my business over a 47 dollar tent.

Had the screen house for 4 years. Held up well until last week. A gust of wind probably around 50 MPH took it down. Broke all four corner hubs and bent all 1b poles beyond repair. We loved it when it stayed together. Now unable to get all the parts I need to make it worth repairing.

Price Paid: $48

Version reviewed: 9' x 10'

This product although comes with flex poles for the ceiling which is great, the necessity to have three to four people to stand this screen house up is ridiculous. Poor design... Try again, North Pole. Your engineer should be fired for this design

An absolute waste of money and time, and cost plenty of aggravation.

Design: polyester
Ease of Setup: Standing it up, Terrible!!!!!
Price Paid: $35

I purchased my tent a couple of years ago, but time passed and just got it out to put it up. It was useless. Also, one of the parts broke before using it one time.

I am sorry that I ever purchased it.  Hopefully I can find a replacement part.

Price Paid: $90

Version reviewed: Model # WMT-1390S-1

We put the tent up in the front yard and the first time a wind/rainstorm came upon us, two poles broke in half and the whole thing fell down. We live in a mild climate, and I can't imagine using this product in a windy part of the country!

Design: 13' x 10
Price Paid: $75

I bought this 14' x 10' screen house at Walmart last summer (2006), went up fine and first bit of rain, Total ruin. Poles bent in half beyond repair. Now I have a screen house without poles!

Ease of Setup: quick and easy
Price Paid: $50

Wasn't even able to get the tent set up in a mild wind before one of the corner plastic parts broke.

Price Paid: $45

This thing is a nightmare!!!!!!! I will stay away from this brand if at all possible in the future.

You either need six people or twelve arms to hold the thing together when assembling. Then the screening doesn't fit right over the frame.

JUNK!!!!! That's what we get with foreign made products.

Price Paid: approx 75 dollars
