Kifaru Doobie

Great gear force multiplier for the connoisseur infantryman and the layman. Purchased new years ago and have not looked back! I'm a pro-Woobie/Doobie comfort type of guy when it comes to sleep, even in my latter years. Coming from a military to civilian background and receiving the military poncho liner many years ago as a budding infantryman, I carried that woobie through many nights in the field or the barracks. I'd double the sleeping bag with the woobie in cold environment training, only waking… Full review

Therm-a-Rest Argo Blanket

A lightweight synthetic fill blanket big enough to cover two intimate sleepers on summer nights. Could be improved with a foot pocket to keep bare tootsies from escaping.   The Tomato We call it The Tomato, and we bought it to address a specific problem that we anticipated during our 25-day hike of the Kungsleden in northern Sweden: About 2/3 of the trail is above the arctic circle and much of it is also treeless, raising the possibility that late night or wee-hours sun might warm up our tent and… Full review

Enlightened Equipment Convert Custom

Amazing lightweight versatile bag/quilt. I am going to end up sounding like a promoter of these bags/quilts. I have had many sleeping bags over my lifetime. Synthetic and down, eventually settling on down as the go-to for all my trips. I am going to talk about this quilt in terms of price mainly because I think this is the major sticking point for most; I know it was for me. I am doing this because in terms of quality and build I do not think you can get better than Enlightened Equipment. I've bought… Full review

Pendleton Grand Canyon National Park Throw

We use our Pendleton blankets when winter comes and it gets too cold under the covers during the winter months. We're not hikers or campers but really like Pendleton products. Like I said, when it gets too cold under the sheets we use one of our Pendleton blankets to keep us warm. We bought two of these and I might mention they come in different colors. One is what's in this review (the Grand Canyon), the other is the Badlands version, mostly olive green with other bold earthy colored stripes. Seems… Full review

Pendleton Grand Canyon National Park Throw

The Pendleton Grand Canyon Throw is a terrific item for extreme outdoor athletes, and for those who love to sleep in style. Not only is it warm, but it's also durable and built to be the perfect survival item. Most backpackers are known for skimping on luxury items. When you have so little space in your pack, you want to fill it with just the necessities. But Pendleton blends the world of luxury with the world of necessities by providing some of the market's best wool blankets. The Pendleton Grand… Full review

Katabatic Gear Palisade 30° Quilt

A great quilt with top notch materials. It is a bit higher price point than its competitors. The issue many people have is correct sizing. The quilt seems to run a little small unless you are a dead still back sleeper. Size up!! Really nice quilt. Warm, light, durable, and well designed. The price point was a bit higher than competitors at the time of my purchase and I think that has been the primary drawback of this product for me. I have seen other online reviews, in particular Outdoor Gear Lab,… Full review

Prima-Care Medical Supplies Foil Mylar Rescue Blanket

This may be one of the best inventions and, in my opinion, one of the most dangerous gear pieces out there for inexperienced users. It is best used as a heat reflector under a tent, as an under-quilt and covering for a hammock, or used to make a heated shelter. Can also be used as a fireplace heat reflector or as shade from the hot sun. I do not recommend using this as your primary blanket as it only reflects up to 90% of your body heat and it does not generate heat only reflect.   Prima Care Medical… Full review

Sierra Madre Puffle 55°

A lightweight down blanket for late spring and early summer.     I was looking for a lighter weight alternative to my heavyish poncho liner and my homemade polarfleece bag, both of which weigh upwards of two lbs. Down blankets seem to be all the rage these days and, after quite a bit of research, I settled on the Puffle. It comes in three temperature ratings; 20, 40, and 55 degrees, each in waterproof down or synthetic. The material sheds water so I opted for down as it was lighter. I got the… Full review

Mountain Laurel Designs Spirit Quilt 28°

A kick ass Apex (synthetic) quilt. I've owned my MLD Spirit 28 quilt for about 6-7 years and it's still going strong. I own down quilts and sleeping bags, but if the conditions are likely to be on the moist side this is the quilt that goes with me. I do some longer adventure races and the possibility of rain/snow or getting dunked during a stream ford is always there–this is the right choice for a sleep system. If you have ever owned any of MLD's gear you know that the fit/finish is flawless. Full review
