Hammock Gear Premium Incubator 20°

Bigger in size with a finer down than its ECO version, Hammock Gear’s Premium Incubator 20 is one of the best full-price gear purchases I have ever made. Once again the cottage industry proves its superiority to shelved items at REI. I suffer from a hiking condition known as CBS (Cheap B@st@rd Syndrome). If you look over my gear reviews you will see loads of sentences like, “I bought this on clearance,” or “It was on sale.” And I often steer clear of name-brand stuff, unless I pick it… Full review

Outdoor Vitals StormLoft 15-Degree Down UnderQuilt

An economy underquilt (UQ) that is Chinese made and Chinese QC'd. This is not a terrible place to start if you are beginning to hammock camp. The Hammock Gear UQ is of much greater quality for the same price, and I wish I had bought that first. OV is great at advertising and marketing, but they really should put that into the product. Arrowhead Equipment New River UnderQuilt

Made-to-order synthetic hammock underquilt, full-length. The single most expensive piece of camping equipment I own, and worth it. Warmth: It's a full length quilt, rated (when I bought it) to 20 degrees; the website currently says 25. I have slept in it comfortably at 15-20 degrees, and windy, but with a hot water bottle, and a poncho wrapped around the outside of the quilt. Given that I don't sleep warm, I think the rating is more than fair. Fit & Comfort: The quilt is available in several… Full review

Therm-a-Rest Down Snuggler

I’ve tried this underquilt a few times in the backyard, but not yet overnight in the woods. Twice in the low 30s, it’s still been a little cool on my shoulder areas. I had to add a thin foam pad (from packing material that I salvaged) under my shoulders. I’m still experimenting with which end to use the adjustable cord side on. With my Therm-a-Rest Snuggler I noticed it was better to put the adjustable side on the head end to really snug it up under the hammock and bring more cover up around… Full review

Loco Libre Gear Carolina Reaper 30°

This is a custom down hammock underquilt by Loco Libre, a small cottage manufacturer. All quilts are custom designed and handmade in the U.S. I had this underquilt made custom for my needs. It is a 30° F quilt that is 54" long and 44" wide. I had it filled with 900 fp Downtek goose down and an extra oz. added for a total of 13 ounces of fill and approximately 2.5" of loft. It has draft collars on both foot and head ends and all necessary hardware and adjustable shock cords to easily attach it to… Full review

MAC-Gear 40 Degree Down Under Quilt

The Mac Gear hammock Under Quilt provides good fit and warmth. The Top Quilt and Under Quilts are handmade in Florida of good quality materials and workmanship. If you have a Warbonnet hammock, this under quilt will fit nicely under the shelf. I got tired of trying to deal with sleeping pads in my hammock because I never could get them to stay in place while I slept. When using a mummy bag in my hammock, I could never get comfortable zipping it up and the bottom insulation did no good anyway. I… Full review

Hammock Gear Economy Incubator 20°

Light. Warm. Excellent quality. Includes stuff sack and cotton storage bag. Built to order options for colors, materials, and over-stuff. Great customer service. I purchased an Incubator 20 short with 1 oz of overstuff, so it is probably more in the 15 degree range as far as rating goes. I have used this quilt down (with a 20 degree HG under quilt with 1oz. overstuff) to a damp 10 degrees and been comfortable (YMMV I am a warm sleeper). The quilt is light enough that it is my go-to for most of the… Full review
