Etowah Outfitters 50 Degree Down Sleeping Bag

rated 3.5 of 5 stars An inexpensive, lightweight, rectangular, summerweight bag that can open up to work as a quilt for two. Too bad it doesn't come in long. I sleep warm. In tents, huts, and European hotels (where bedding usually consists of a bottom sheet and a quilt in a quilt cover—that's all), I have suffered through many a night under a quilt or in a sleeping bag that is too warm, sometimes waking up soaked in sweat while others seem to be perfectly comfortable in the same or even more insulation. My wife, not… Full review

Marmot Pounder

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I'm still using this bag that I bought in 2008 or 2009. It has taken me from freezing temperatures to the 80's in a hammock (I just laid on it to keep the mosquitoes from biting!). It's not meant for extremely cold temperatures, but I use it as part of a sleep system that includes a silk liner and a crinkly emergency bivvy sack. On a freezing cold wet night, I'll use all three. The silk liner gives me another 10-15 degrees of warmth, and the emergency bivvy another 20 degrees of warmth. I've used… Full review

Marmot NanoWave 35

rated 3 of 5 stars Well built. Great for summer nights but not for cold weather. I am a Florida hiker/backpacker. I am one of those people northerners laugh at because I wear winter jackets when the weather reaches 65°F and below. Knowing my blood is thinner and I have my own internal insulation (weighing in at 150 lbs), I was hoping this bag would keep me warm. Although this bag is rated to 35°F, I was cooly uncomfortable at 52°F and below. On all occasions where the weather dipped below 55°, I packed wool pajamas,… Full review

Coleman Bambusa

rated 4.5 of 5 stars It is great for three-season camping and packs down small enough to fit on a bike rack. I bought mine years ago and have camped with it several times. I found it to be great for fitting on my bike pannier rack with my bike packing tent and inflatable mattress. For comfort in extreme cold, I've bought a silk liner to add another season rating, but haven't needed to use it...yet. Full review

Marmot Aspen 40 Ultralight

rated 2.5 of 5 stars The bag is rated at 40 degrees, works pretty good to that temp. It's very lightweight at 1.5 lbs. It's a good summer bag! I bought this bag last summer and used it in warmer nights than its specified 40 degree temp, so used it as a quilt just laid over me at night. It's very lightweight at 1 1/2 lbs and stuffs into a compression stuff sack. It's filled with Polarguard and compresses very well to the size of a soccer ball, so takes up very little room in my backpack or bike panniers. It's a very… Full review

Big Agnes Horse Thief SL 35°

rated 4 of 5 stars A lightweight hoodless option that lightens the load in your summer pack. Recommended for weather where the temps hover around or above 50°F. Warmth: The bag is rated at 35°F. The bag does a fine job in temperatures above 50°F. Mid 40's and below, the comfort level starts to drop off quick. In temperate climates, like the one here in Minnesota, you can judge the weather well enough to make a pretty good estimate of whether you'll be in comfort range.  Fit and Comfort: I must say, the bag is… Full review

Mountain Hardwear Ratio 45

rated 4 of 5 stars Very good warm weather bag. It packs down small, and has good loft for a lightweight summer bag. The zipper only allows it to be used as a quilt for one, as it doesn't extend to the bottom of the bag. Purchased this bag deeply discounted at $100; the regular retails for $199 and the long for $219. As of June 2017 it is still available with big discounts on many websites. I sleep warm, so this bag allows me to sleep comfortably down to 40 degrees in wool 150 weight base layer shirt and long johns. Full review

Deuter DreamLite 500

rated 5 of 5 stars Sweet, durable, comfortable, holds up to its ratings very well. If you don't have one, prioritize getting your Dreamlite. I truly love mine. For the guy with the cord issue, I thought the exact thing. Even considered sliding barrel lock up to perfecto tying a knot and cutting the extra off. But on one trip someone took my backpack. Luckily all my gear and sacks were in the tent with me. Man, figuring out how to lug my gear back out the trail without my backpack was a lot of trial by error and I… Full review

Mountain Equipment Men's Glacier 500

rated 3.5 of 5 stars One of Mountain Equipment's all rounder sleeping bags designed to tackle a wide range of conditions. It does what is says on the tin, keeps you warm when it is cold, however it does have a few drawbacks that would make me consider going for something else. Lets start with the basics.  With an extreme temperature rating of -21 degrees Celsius/ -6 degrees F, Comfort rating of 2 degrees Celsius/ 36 degrees F and a "Good nights sleep rating of -8 degrees Celsius/ 18 degrees F. This bag is going to… Full review
