The John Muir Trail: The Music Video

This summer, a group of eight multi-media artists known as the John Muir Project loaded up with more than 60 pounds of video equipment to record their experiences on the 230-mile John Muir Trail (JMT) over 25 days.

The result is a stunning video that is everything most hiking videos aren't: exciting, kinetic, joyful, and inspiring. Where many films portray the hiking experience as slow-moving drudgery, the John Muir Project uses masterful editing, a bouncy soundtrack, and the natural beauty of the High Sierras to highlight the transcendent parts of the trail experience.

Watching this video gave me a brief twinge that this summer's hiking season is fading fast!

This is a really great video Seth. Thanks for sharing. Granted the quality, etc may not be as great but this makes me want to get a GoPro even more. I want to explore doing video trip reports.

Pretty sweet.

Too bad this weekend is all booked up.  Weather is great here in Asheville for backpacking...

I was anticipating a breakthru Broadway hit.  I misread the thread headings, and thought it said John Muir Trail the Musical...

I'm glad you liked it.  For me, the most significant thing about this video is that it makes hiking look exciting.  Out of all outdoor activities, I think hiking has the greatest difference between how dynamic it is versus how dynamic it looks on film.  Kayaking, Mountain biking, bouldering, etc...all look at least somewhat as kinetic and exciting as they actually are.
