New England extended stay

Hey guys, I was hoping someone could recommend a location for an extended stay in New England. I plan to try to find part-time work nearby some good climbing and backpacking sites. My concern is accommodation---what is affordable for long-term stays? Anyone ever traveled there and want to provide some insight?
