I read earlier tonight on Denver Post's website about a guy dying in an avalanche while in Colorado's backcountry.  He had the inflatable avalanche float, an avalung, a beacon, shovel, etc and the party he was skiing with were also equipped with locators, probes and shovels.  He died of trauma, the airbag was shredded and he was buried under 4 feet of snow.  Also, avalanche danger is present even within the boundaries of patrolled ski areas.  3 more died in Washington state in the Stevens Pass area when they were swept 1500 feet down an avalanche chute.  Be careful out there everyone.

Had a friend ski at Stevens that weekend.  I'll have to see what he heard while he was there.
