theres been a breakout of huntavirus in yosemite, 2 people are dead. apparently mice have taken up residence in the tent cabins. they have closed them down pending decontamination, looks like AT shelters arent the only place for huntavirus.

Mice are common around cabins and AT shelters. The ones you have to worry about are deer mice that are the host for the virus. They are tan white as opposed to grey or brown domestic mice.

This has already been discussed in this thread. It is "hantavirus", not "huntavirus".
There are now 10 confirmed cases, plus an estimated 10,000 or more who were exposed in Yosemite. The disease is widespread, not only in North America, but on every continent except Antarctica.
Information from NIH is found here.

Trailjester, no worries my friend. Hey look at it like this...
We talk about the same ol' tents, sleeping bags, and boots all the time.
So if ya think about it there really isn't much difference.
Thanks for keeping the conversation alive.

When putting food in the bear proof lock-ups make sure it is totally put away, that is, wrapped up so the mice don't get it either.
