I was trail running at a nearby state wildlife reserve and jogged off trail as the woods allowed. I came across this oddity:

This is a multi-use area open to seasonal hunting, mountain biking and hiking, but I can’t quite imagine how this thing would help anyone do anything. Or does it seem nefarious?

The stick with the container duck taped to it is maybe 8 feet long. If there were a pond nearby I might think it was a cradle to hold a fishing rod but there isn’t.

Do you ever run across weird, bush-crafty creations on your trips?

I'm gonna throw the first crazy idea on the table......

Could it be a drink holder? Sounds like the spot is fairly accesible. I know around here anywhere that is somewhat accessible (parks, etc..) has teenagers drinking at it at night to avoid police. Those kids get crafty too, could they have made it and propped the branch in between two trees to hold a drink? I can't tell if there is a bottom to the plastic?

Was there anything in the container? Could it be a geocache?

I think it was a try at boiling water over a fire in a plastic container "as seen on TV".

The stick appeared to have been in a fire -  were there any scorch marks on the tape?

Regardless, they should have packed out the container & tape huh.
