Hmmm,
I was just thinking about taking my russian made infrared scope on vacation with me but then I realised they would make me unscrew the lense cover and doing that in daylight will ruin it, especially if they made me turn it on. I wonder if the x-ray device in the luggage inspection would hurt it. I wonder if they saw it in my baggage if they would uscrew the lense and turn it on.

P.S. Its a lot of fun to watch wild animals at night.

You may be better off to place it in checked baggage. If the screeners are curious about it they have every right to have you put the batteries in it and show how it works or even confiscate it if you can
